What do you think about that new green law?

Hello, everyone!
I was reading my local newspaper today and saw an article that stated that our Green Party has proposed a new act that would be able to reduce the usage of plastic bags. The new law would raise the price of plastic bags more than two times, making these types of bags more expensive. It is thought that this will force people to use alternative types of bags, like paper or textile ones.
I think that it will reduce the usage of plastic bags, but I don't know, how noticeable the effect might be.
What are your ideas on this law? Do you think it will work or do you find it senseless to impose such law?

I am glad to hear that you have gone green with using these durable cotton bags. If everyone used more of these, we could save a lot of resources and keep our environment cleaner! Thanks for response, take care!:)

I understand the law because it creates useless waste on the enviroment. I was responding to someone else about this a week ago and felt that forcing people to comply seemed a little over the top. I do not have a car at the moment so I need to use plastic bags myself. If I had a car I would have no problem using paper sacks and when I was young that is all my dad would use. So I think it is a good idea but they should keep in mind not everyone has a car to get to the store. Nice topic and happy mylotting to you.

Well yea, it can reduce the amount of non-degradable waste, but it also can cause some additional expenses to people who just don't have any other choice but to use plastic bags. Thanks for dropping by, enjoy your day!:)

Personally, I think the new green law will work fine. Indeed, as plastic is non bio-degradable, the waste it creates will further pollute our planet Earth. I know it's impossible as of today to completely do away with plastic bags. We still need plastic bags for our daily trash, as paper bags do not hold trash and smell that well and they get torn easily, which might cause other problems to emerge.

I agree, it's nearly impossible to get rid of plastic bags once and for all, because they are most effective means for packaging different products, including food. Still, I on the same opinion with you: the new law might help to reduce the amount of plastic bags that is used for shopping.

It will probably change some habits. During years, I was shopping with no bags, because shops were giving plastic bags : at the time, we saw plastic bags on the side of the roads in the country near towns. They are taxed now, and are sold a few cents each. Today, I put bags in my car before I go for shopping, not for the small economy, but because I understand it's better for the environment, and a majority of people are doing the same. It's a good measure, and not a bad tax : you have not to pay it if you don't use plastic bags.

You're right: plastic bags are slowly degradable, it may take up to 100 years for a plastic bag to vanish in the nature, so they kind of pile up on the sides of the roads and on landfills. I am sure that such "preventive measures" will change the habits of number of people. But on the other hand, it might be just another way to fill the governments budget. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, have a great day!:)
