How do you feel about young children in bikini's? My daughter is three years old and has worn bikini's ever since she was a baby. I think they look really cute, and they are comfortable for her, and easy to get on and off when she needs to go to the bathroom. Here in Hawaii it is very common to see children and woman of all ages wearing bikini's. Well, i recently had this similar discussion with some mothers in another online group i am a part of. A lot of woman there thought i was wrong to let my daughter wear a bikini to the beach. they did not think it was appropriate. What are your feelings on this subject?

I have mixed feelings about this. I think that they are okay for home or a more private setting, but I really do worry about all the strange and scary people that comb beaches - which is why I'm not sure that they are wholly appropriate for public situations.

well..there can be strange and scary people in every situation. those same people are at the malls, parks, stores, etc. It is your reponsibility to watch over your children and protect them from these type of people, whether they may be around or not. I don't think it has anything to do with the way a child is dressed though.

I'd also like to add that it doesn't matter how much you watch your child: that doesn't prevent some pervert from eyeballing your child or anyone else's child.
Read about that guy Alcala, he was a serial killer and he combed the beaches and similar areas and took photographs of people, some appear to have been without their permission. It's bad enough that the FBI has had to publicly post many of these photos just to try to make sure that the subjects in them are still alive.
People do some very strange things, and many times we are often not aware of them. I've seen people take cell phones or very small digital recorders to public places and film people without their knowledge, and appear to be filming other things instead.
If you are comfortable with your child going to the beach, thats fine :) Im comfortable with children in bikinis, I just worry about children being in situations where this sort of thing would entice a weirdo or a pervert, thats all. Ultimately if they want to access your child, mine, or anyone elses, parents and other care takers and caring people are the only thing between the two.

It depends on the predator.
Speaking from one who's dealt with enough creepers in my time.

cher oh you are so rigt,at my age and mysize I would die before I would be seen on the beach in a bikini, that calls for slim and well toned, not fat and flabby. Little girls in bikinis are not sexy they are just cute.

i totally agree with the both of you! How can anyone think of a little girl as "sexy"? they are not sexy, but they sure are cute! As far as older women...well...i have seen a few lucky ones who do still look good in a bikini! Hey..i sure hope i look good enough to still wear a bikini at that age! lol...

I don't like it. A lot of times I've seen little girls dressed in bikini's and they would fall off easy or go up easy because little kids do not pay attention. Little kids aren't looking to see if they are covered up when they are busy playing.
I would never put my daughter in anything but a one piece because that is more safe and secure.
And as I think others have already commented - you never know what sickos are out there watching.

well, the way i see it, they are young kids, so who really cares if the top of the bikini slides up? I mean, really there isn't anything to be revealed! A boy goes to the beach with swim shorts on right? Well, there chest is bare, and there is nothing wrong with that right? So why is it wrong for a girl to be covered with a bikini top. THey have nothing to see or be shown, they ar enot developed. Know what i mean?

hi kainalu55 oh yes I think in Hawaii in that climate why not, they are not string bikinis and they are just toddlers, whats to get so uptight about? yes getting to the bathroom for the little ones wou ld be
a whole lot easier and they do look cute in them. On a three year old they are not sexy but just cute.people should get their minds up out of the gutter and onto the idea that this is a three year old for goodness 'sake, and there is nothing lewd or wrong in it.

I know! it is just ridiculous how some people think these days! pure craziness! i would never in a any way do something or allow something that would hurt or harm my daughter in any way. I honestly see no problem with allowing her to wear a bikini..it is cute and innocent. And it is completely "normal" to dress this way at the beach! She isn't going to the mall in her bikini!

Children wearing bikinis are really cute to look at. The good thing about them is they don't care what others think of what they're wearing, unlike us, adults, who are very conscious of what others might think of us. Well, what is the appropriate outfit in going to the beach? I think bikinis are fine especially for children.

exactly! bikinis are fine for children. I let my daughter choose what she wants to wear. she owns both bikinis and one piece swim suits. She is three and a half years old, and she is very much capable of making her own decisions when it comes to what she wants to wear. She usually chooses her bikinis. I believe they are just more comfortable for her.

Children are raised differently. I for 1 have 3 girls. I maybe old-fashioned when it comes to raising them. I feel that they wear regular bathing suits for now to ward off maniacs who take advantage on little kids. When they grow up and they can defend themselves, if they want to wear a bikini - so be it.

How can they deffend themselves against these so called "maniacs" when they grow up? If someone wants to take advantage or harm the when they grow up, it will be just as hard to defend hemselves. You should have good supervision on your child, not to let these kinds of things happen.

In India, you find a lot of people (besides foreigners and foreign returns) who are at the beach and go into the water in their regular wear.
I don't have girls and the little girls I see using the swimming pool are usually in a one piece bathing suit. But when I was younger, my parents usually got me bikinis. It wasn't skimpy and it was comfortable to use a bathroom.
I wouldn't think too much about it unless the bikini was skimpy.

I don't think it's inappropriate and I actually think it looks cute like how you think. Maybe they're just jealous because they don't have such a cute daughter like yours.

I don't like things that show off childrens' bodies myself and I was a little bit annoyed when my mother-in-law baught my daughters bikinis. But they like them (easier to use the bathroom), so now I buy them too, but I make sure that they are not too skimpy.

I never really had a problem with them. I just think they're cute, but i do know there are a lot of people out there who do disagree with me. Right now my daughter is three, she has one piece suits as well, and whenever we go to the beach i let her choose what she wants to wear. She always chooses to wear a bikini. I know that may change when she gets a little older, and it will always be her choice. And the fact that it's easier to use the bathroom in them is an added bonus! It is so much of a trouble getting in and out of a wet one piece just to go to the bathroom!

As a mother with a daughter, I do not see a problem at all with seeing little girls wearing bikinis. My daughter has also worn them since she was a baby. They are not skimpy like some adult bikinis. I think that they are very cute and they definitely make it a lot easier for going to the bathroom. I also agree with what you have said about pedophiles. It does not matter what a child is wearing. They are focusing on children and not the clothing that they are wearing. A child wearing a one piece suit is just as vulnerable as one wearing a bikini. They are excited by the thought of children, plain and simple. I do not understand people that say their little girls can't wear a bikini, but that they will be able to as a teenager. It seems to me that a young girl who has not developed yet would be much less revealing in a bikini than a teenager who has developed and has something to show off. Little girls look adorable in bikinis.

My daughter wears a bikini. She is almost 5, and she can wear the same one that I bought for her when she was 2.
She also has a one piece. She will outgrow it faster because she is tall for her age, and it will be too short for her torso soon.
I have pictures of me as a 10 year old in a bikini, and it was probably the best I ever looked in one! I had wash board abs! I haven't been that blessed since high school!

I agree, bikinis do last longer than one pieces. My daughter has a few that she has been using for years, she has a few string type ones, so they are fully adjustable, and can be used for a while. When i was very young my mom used to dress my sisters and i in bikinis as well..when i got to elementary age though i chose to wear one pieces because that was what i felt comfortable in at that time. It wasn't until later in high school that i started to wear bikinis again.

Why is it inappropriate for little kids to wear a bikini to the beach? They're kids there should be no malice in them. You can't tell a 3 year old shes being indecent that's just ridiculous! We should let little kids be little kids

Yes, you are absolutely right! Let kids be kids..they no nothing about being "sexy" it is completely innocent and should stay that way. My daughter loves her bikinis. She has all types of swimsuits, and i let her choose what she wants to wear on a particular day, for the most part, she chooses her bikinis.

I always liked wearing bikinis as a child, and I don't think that it's inappropriate. As long as they aren't child sized string bikinis i think they look adorable. A problem arises when the bathing suits do not fit the children, and as a result, the bathing suits become much more revealing that they were intended to be.

Yes, they are absolutely adorable! My daughter actually does have a few string bikini's that were made for children. I still think those are cute as well, as they are made for children. I guess i just don't have a problem with bikini's at all. I feel that it is fine to wear whatever you or your child feels comfortable with.
