Tips for Studying Abroad

United States

Soon I will be studying abroad for a semester in London, and I am excited, but also anxious. Does anyone have any tips that may help me with me stay? I have been to London before, for about a week 2 years ago. I will be staying in a suite-style apartment, and will not be backpacking at all. I will also be traveling Europe during my semester there. Any tips on must-see places in Europe? Customs I should be aware of? Preparations I should make?

Hello! What course are you taking in London and which University? London is just like USA for sure. Although you will get to encounter people with different accents but then you'll get use to talking to them specially some speaks real fast.. Foods are really nice for me, Chinese and Thai restaurants are everywhere so if you're into asian then you won't miss it. Bring sweatshirts and coats for winter. During your semestral break you can visit birmingham( a really nice place and "Bullring"-- good place to shop!hehhe), or plymouth. You visit france or spain by eurostar. Good Luck to you and Take care!!! I just miss being an international student.

I imagine that it's very beautiful...especially the moors. I also hope to visit Bath while I'm in the country...maybe even a trip to Scotland or Ireland. It'll be hard for me to narrow down where I want to visit while I'm overseas...I want to go everywhere! except maybe Antarctica haha.

How exciting! I'm in college now, I've always thought it would be fun to study in another country, AND I've always wanted to go to London or even anywhere in England...I'm super jealous, lol! I've only been to Japan in terms of traveling abroad. I guess my only advice would be to expect cultural differences and differences in languistic phrases- I don't know many is England's English except that they like to call cookies "biscuits" and potato chips "crisps" (and I think they call french fries "chips").

Yes that's true...when I visited there before, instead of a salad bar in the grocery store (which is the usual in the U.S.) they had a curry bar. That makes sense because of the high Indian population in London. They also have different Chinese food than the Chinese food that is popular in the States. I think their Chinese food is much more authentic than ours haha.
