I have a little one that like to draw and design her own clothes, She uses fabric glue, ribbons, rhinestones and other stuff to decorate the items. Now she wants to try do it all from scratch so to speak. I have no clue what to start her off with. I cannot sew so I am no help. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I think SINGER has a "my first sewing machine" made for young girls to start sewing. You could check this out by going to Singer Sewing Machines on the searchbar. If that doesn't help you, check at JoAnn Fabrics, if you can find a JoAnn super center they carry machines. I used my sewing machine to sew with my girls. You might want to check with the 4H clubs in your area, they offer sewing lessons and she could join to learn. If you don't know anything about sewing you will need to find someone to work with her. If I can be of any more help please let me know. I am sewing right now with 2 of my grandchildren.

Thank you for you response. when I am ready to actually purchase it I will have to contact you, She is a young girl that loves designing her clothes and stuff. It hard to pick and choose and I want to make sue she really wants to learn since she is so active , this will require a bit of attention and sitting still, lol. Thank you.

How old is your little one? I will be going to JoAnn's soon, have to get my granddaughter a birthday present. So I will see if they have them, if not then I will just keep a look out, so I know what to tell you later. Have a great day!

I was talking to the department manager at WalMarts about the kids sewing machine, they didn't have any but I asked her about them and she thought they were a Christmas item but said a lot of people had trouble with them. She also said that everything is made so cheap anymore that noone is happy with the machines they have bought and are experienceing problems. I have had my machine since 1979 and I still love it. Maybe you would want to check into some used machines. Don't know where you are from but maybe could contact some sewing macine dealers and see if they have taken some good ones in on trade. I bought my daughter a sewing machine a few years ago that is identical to mine through a Singer dealer. Anyway, wanted to pass this information on to you.

I was in there and she was cutting fabric so I got a chance to see someone with knowledge (Like she told me they might keep their fabric and the other girl working was positive they would. In case you don't know a lot of the WalMarts are discontinuing their fabric department. You are welcome. Hope the information was of some help to you.

I am not quite sure which is the best sewing machine. But I know Brother shall be one of them. I ever looked up a Brother sewing machine via the net and I liked it. It has many cool features. If I had it, I could make many fashionable dresses:) Besides, Brother is a good brand and therefore its quality won't be bad.
I love China

Singer has a small sewing machine that's made for kids to learn on. I think I saw one at the local WalMart the other day, but not sure. Maybe it was JoAnn's since I was in both stores.
B4 she uses a sewing machine, she really should learn from an adult who can teach her good safety practices, but her schedule is so hectic, don't know when she'd fit sewing classes into it.
I learned by sewing with a needle & thread.. the good ol' fashioned, hand sewing. If you closely monitored her use of the needle & where she puts it when she is finished sewing a seam, that could be a start.

I was in our WalMart today and they had sewing machines and I looked for the one for kids and they didn't have it. I KNOW I have seen them there before, but they are also going out of the fabric here so maybe they just didn't get more in. I am teaching my 10 & 16 year old granddaughters to sew with my machine. They are doing ok but my machine is 30 years old and is all electronic and it spoils you to go to a new machine. I know several years ago it 'QUIT" on me right in the middle of Christmas costumes for our program at church and I went to WalMart and bought one! My son told me if I didn't return it he was, he worked there then, I was having such "fits" with it! We did return it and got a better one but it just was not mine! After I got mine fixed, my daughter kept asking me "what are you going to do with 2 sewing machines?" and I kept telling her I was returning it. I knew what I was doing with it, so imagine her surprise when she opened her present and found that machine!
