What is android and how is its future,

i am nowadays coming across more and more about android , people say it has revolutionized the mobile industry what exactly is this and with many of its competitors like iPhone and windows will it sustain and make a mark?

android is a free Operating system for mobile phone. i think this is the time that the three big creator of mobile OS will make thier move and create also a free OS.lol
