Banner Important?

Hi guys.
Recently my friends been building his website, with his own script, mainly to do with buying and selling. But i just wanted to ask you why are banner advertisements, in PTC and Gpt sites important. What are the advantages of banners, cant you just put up the refferer URL instead?? Please feel free to discuss.

The first plus is you attract the costumer , user , buyer , seller. By making your banner attractive the customers are interested at your website. If you put a banner it will be more visible. By adding good banners you are making your design pretier. If you have questions you can ask.

if we making our sites more attractive by adding banners ,is it slow down our websites???

Banners are pictures that are hyperlinked. It is said over and over again that, a picture is worth a thousand words. So, instead of just putting the URL (which is composed only of words), it is better to post banner. The banner can also make the website colorful and lively (alive!).
