A friend of mine is bragging that he has 16gb of ram and I only have 8gb. At what point are video games simply unable to make use of more ram? Would their be any difference between 8gb and 16gb in a video game like crysis or bioshock or something.

Only the memory size of RAM does not affect the performance of the Game on your PC,
but many things come into the scene like the Processor, Graphics Card (Graphics Memory, and many things in Graphics Cards like Core Clock, Memory Clock, etc), then, the size of your main memory, your RAM as well as its type, whether its DDR2 or DDR3..

I think it really doesn't matter because it depends if your running in a 32-bit or 64-bit OS. In a 32-bit system You can only maximize up to 3GB of your ram. beyond that is only bling. 64 bit however is a different thing.
That's what I read anyway...

So much RAM is not required for video games. With 8 Gb of RAM you have more than sufficient for any purpose at present, the only benefit of extra is to future proof the system. It is also important to have other resources on a par with the RAM, otherwise it will never be of any value.

yes normally 8 gb of ram is enough to play with videogames onyour pc even as regards the last and complex titles available now!!So surely 16 gb is much for a private use it would be really expesnive the upgrade i guess...

i am not very fond of ram but i think both of you have huge RAMs and they are really not going to make a big differneces while gaming. i think when you play game on your system there must be need of a graphic card also and enough RAM and not a very huge RAM . i think for todays's games 8gb ram is far enough

yes buddy there is a lot of difference.. its double.... but if u r talking about games.... ram will not sum it up because ram takes care of games but not that much... ur 8gb ram is enough for every latest game... there is not any game in the list which recommends more than 2gb of ram... all u need to upgrade is a 3d accelerator card... which is i think 1gb ddr3 is the latest... after having that the performance of ur system and the speed and everything will go better than ur friends system..... ram is just in case of multi processing...
