What are you doing for the EARTH HOUR??

India

Guys and Gals If you at all know this, today is the Earth Hour. Well, the people here in my city are planning for a big switch off from 8:30 PM IST to 9:30 PM IST. We are all going to switch off the appliances, even the fan - for an hour . Well, there are more than 50,000 households which are going to try this out. So, we are actually saving more than a million kilowatts of power and a million joules of energy. Let Mother Earth get some relief at least for today from the torture that give her everyday. What are you going to do? Go Green!! Reduce your carbon footprint.

You know, I guess people in town can live without certain things for a short period of time, because they have so many luxuries, but out on the farm here, we are always reducing, reusing, recycling and keeping our power consumption down ALL THE TIME. I don't need a kick in the azz to tell me to do it for a special date or time. I do it all the time anyway. So, no, I won't be doing anything differently, because my newborn baby chicks NEED the heat lamp on them to stay alive. The heater on the automatic waterers HAS TO stay on if the temperatures are below freezing and I am in Canada. And if it is still cold out I'm not turning off my stove so I will freeze and end up using more power to restart it again later, while my teeth are chattering. We, on the farm, do without the luxuries that many that live 'in town' take for granted. So, this day and time is for you to realize how much you have been wasting and learn to live like us farmers for a very short period of time. I'm pretty sure you'll make it through, though.

I will be shutting off all the lights and appliances. I will probably light candles and read or just laydown and relax in a peaceful state for that hour. I'm excited about it and I truly hope alot of people do it all over the world.

Our family went out of the house for the majority of the entire day. We didn't leave anything on in our house. We enjoyed the outdoors almost all day long. It started with a trip to a local park where my sister-in-law and I had organized an Easter Egg Hunt for the members of our playgroup. Then, because of the fact that it was such a beautiful day, we decided that our family was going to go to a local nature reserve and take a walk as a family.

Well, I turned off the light in our flat. All appliances were turned off as well. Then I went to my room and stayed in bed for the whole time. The amusement park near our place joined the earth hour activity and they wer closed during that time.

We were late for a few minutes for the Earth Hour 'coz we didn't want to miss Pilipinas Got Talent Search. But before it finally ended, we turned off the switches except the ref and just went outside. It seemed that my family was the only one who observed the Earth Hour 'coz everything was well lit outside. Nevertheless, what is important is that I and my husband have instilled in the minds of our children the value of saving energy for the love of mother Earth.

We aren't going to do anything like that, but we do it normally... Our mother learned me and my brother and sisters to always be ecological; Not using car for going anywhere close, but using bike. Not being too long in the shower, not having the lights on all the time, not using too much water, not using too much electricity and other things like that. I agree, that we have to "go green"!!!

We turned off our light and all other appliances for an hour. We just had our candles. My hubby have some visitors but they liked the idea of candlelit poker game for an hour.

i just received a text messages earlier about that advisory and its from my mobile provider that they will cut off any connection from 8:30pm and so i guess that would be enough for me to help mother earth. and since i only have laptop and fan with me then no need to turn them off coz they are not eating much of electricity.

15 minutes left and I would be favoring this mega event for sure. we all should favor this. This is least we can do for our future and to the coming generation. I wish we do this very regularly in our day to day life. why to wait for such initiative, we should do all possible ways to save electricity every day. Let's save electricity :)

hell0! well, i will take a part in the Earth hour, but in my house hold the only things that are going to work, to be switched on at that time is my laptop( which is really good, because I can use it in that one hour of no electricity) and the radio clock. so guess i go green all the time, not only at the Earth hour :)

It's now 9:31 PM MNL as I'm replying to this post. And I fell sad because I think we're the only house on the street that actually turned their lights off! We've had our lights off since 8:15 PM. (The only thing I have turned on here is the electric fan since it's hot!) But I'm glad to know that We've joined everyone else in the switch off for tonight.

Well, just like everyone who is going to support the Earth Hour, my family will trun off the lights tonight in our home. I just hope the baby twins in our family wouldn't mind the darkness and the heat. Even our church urges us to join the Earth Hour.

Maybe we are already in bed and have time for my kids.I could giggle with them, share stories, and have counseling maybe. This may be a time to rest and relax maybe by just lying on my bed having a break for a while since I am busy with many things to meet deadlines.

I will be participating this event. I posted the reminder in my whiteboard and also post it in my fridge door. I am excited to see my neighborhood if they will participate or not. I had my candles ready for this event too,and my kids will surely loves the lantern design(the shadow). One hour is good enough to conserve energy(home use)so,what more with the whole world. Waiting for the exact time now. Had to prepare dinner early too

As far as I am concerned, I think I will just shut all the energy out of use, which I do not use any of the energy. I think I can do tjis to the earth Hour's coming. Happy we have our hands to protect our earth.

I turn off the computer and the lights. The only thing which will be switched on will be the fridge (you know why). Then I'll go out of home. The start in Bulgaria is 20:30h - I hope that most of the people will act at least like me.
