I guess it depends on who tells me I have to Talk to You or even I need to tell you something . If it's family or a your boss , then it is always something serious. If it's your friends, it's usually gossip, or something not as scary. :D

Hi anitarei,
Usually when people say " I need to talk to you", they had some problem with our work or things that for them can be improved. Different people roles in our life usually bring different meanings of this phase.
When those words are come from your boss or bosses or father, it would mean that you did not do your work properly. They usually need you to do it back or improve your works. It is sometimes means you got promoted.
When your mother said that words, that mean she is worried about your personal life. If you still single, she would propose someone to you or ask when you want to get married. If you already married then this might have something to do with your relationship with your spouse. Or how they feel about your spouse. If you have a kids, then it might be about them.
But the most dexterous situation is when those words come from your sister or brother especially the younger one. Prepare your pockets. They usually talk about money. And most of the time they want to borrow some money from us.

LOL, you sound like me. I get worried too when someone says something like that. I wish they wouldn't say it in advance because then I'm considering all the worst case scenario things.
Of course, 99% of the time it turns out to be nothing so earth shaking but you still get a little stressed.
Maybe we should stop worrying about the negatives since it rarely is something negative.

Well, yes i think of it now. Thats always a confusing phrase and will really make us think what was the matter?. I remember once my boss saying this and i was thinking lots of negative stuffs, my performance, my work , new project but later it was nothing an important topic. This phrase is like a secret sentence that makes us to think so much of possibilities. Nice topic friend!!

Wow, I hadn't realized how many people are bothered by "I need to talk to you." I personally am bothered by it because an ex-girlfriend of mine had said that one day when we were still together and she looked really sad. Come to find out she had cheated on me at this party and blah blah blah so I've hated hearing that statement ever since! It's amazing what you learn from experiences in life. Happy mylotting. :)

I understand you in this situation. Especially if i know that something might have happened when even if i am not truly aware.. there is this feeling of being worried as to what the conversation will be. i too feel awkward about this. my mom, my boss, and someone else, especially if their tone is a bit off, i will be on guard already... he he

I know what you mean when someone says "I need to talk to you" I get all freaked out and worry that I have done something wrong. I worry that I'll be reprimanded. I usually don't think there's something else wrong as usually if it's anything else it's said in a different way, but oh when "I need to talk to you" comes out of someone's mouth I want to scurry away, and usually I'll wait a little while before going to see them etc If I can help it.
Usually everything isn't as bad as I first thought it was, but I suppose that's the way it is always.

I think because of some bad experience when people say "I need to talk to you".
That makes you freak out when hearing this. Maybe your experience on this kind of phrase is not good. like for example. When your boss tell you that he need to talk to you. You don't think that he will promote you, rather you think that your boss my fire you or something. Also about your mom. Maybe she just want to talk to you about giving you a new house. But because of bad experience you think that "need to talk you" means that she is sick of cancer or something.
..
I think it just an approach.
Just don't think in advance.
Try to listen first before making any conclusion.

There is always something shocking when someone needs to talk to you. It may be bad or good but one thing is certain It is something shocking. I don't like the feeling that I need to wait for a day before hearing it. I get paranoid about it. If someone tells me I need to talk to you.. right in that moment we will talk about it.
