Have you ever wanted to change people's perception here?

MyLot is a great discussion site. And when it comes to discussion, it's a natural thing that we want to match others perceptions with ours. It's not a debate where everyone wants to keep their argumentations, perceptions, and won't let other people bother them. Based on my experience, I've met people who made a discussion like a debate, but I'm grateful that there are a lot of people with open minded here as well. At first I have to admit that this site might be my chance to give other perception to other people and hopefully that will change them, but after a while, I've pretty much given up on it and just let them be. I think that way is better, after all people have their own judgements and experiences.

I think within us all there is something that makes us want to change a person's point of view if for no other reason then it's not our point of view. We try and sometimes we succeed, but I agree it's better to leave them alone and let them have their own point of view, or formulate their own ideas. It makes for a good discussion and great debate for the most part. There is such a diversity here that there's almost always atleast ten different opinions per discussion.

Experience isn't just by the number of posts I've come to realize. Though you flatter me, there are many others who have been here for longer with many more posts then I, and some who have created several accounts and are pros at this site. Have a great day!

Several accounts here? I hope they don't get banned...Isn't that violating the rule here? I would never do such a thing..nor do I have such courage to do that.. Happy MyLotting.

Yes, it's tempting to do so, as we are all convinced that our way of thinking about a certain issue is the right one. But it is much more appreciated if you'll just be flexible in your ideas, and accept different angles of view of the same problem. People appreciate when you are open minded. Of course that doesn't mean you can't argue one's opinion, that you have to accept it just because it's different... this is another extreme. But if you have a good argument, the will an the time to post it, then unless the other has a better argument, you are right to say you know the answer better. But if on a discussion, people just write about their own experiences, only a description of events, you can only be right if you share yours as well. So basically there's no need to impose anything, you just have to communicate. It's a sharing of thoughts. In my opinion this is what myLot is about.

True. You can't communicate if you don't listen. It's a cycle...you break it, communication fails.

I believe that is the main idea of MyLot..well, we don't have to accept it, but we should always listen first to what others have to say..I believe that people won't give a care to what you have to say if you don't listen to them first.

I do agree with you machivado. Yes, each of us has our very own desire to change people's perception to conform to ours, to conform to what we believe. However, that idea or desire is very difficult to achieve. Human as we are, we were given the gift of intellect and the gift of freewill. Thus, having those we have our own guidelines on what we believe is right and what is wrong. Each of us has our own principles to stand with and no matter what, we are determine and firm enough to somehow let others know that we are right on what we believe in. Yet, we cannot force them to believe what we have to say with regard to our own perception. Changing ones belief or perception could never been so easy. So it's better that way and maybe it was really meant to be that way.

Absolutely! We have to be keen enough and be sensitive towards other's feelings. We need to respect their beliefs as much as we want our beliefs to be respected. And we should be open-minded to accept their thoughts and to understand their ideas. For we are made equal by our Creator thus no one shoud rate oneself better than anyone else in this world. Have a great day too! Happy mylotting.

That's why it's very important to us not to rate ourselves better than anyone. Sometimes it's just hard enough to keep stand firm to our own beliefs without making somebody feel like his/her perception is being rejected...Well, at least we try.. Have a good day.

hi there machivado... well for me mylot helps a lot of people, we can share some opinions and ideas from other member, but of course we cant control what other people can say on our discussion because we have different thoughts and opinion and i respect each other opinions here. but we also feel sometimes that we need to react to correct if they have wrong perception or misinterpretation on our discussion or from other comments i just put my own explanation but still on a nice way.. happy mylotting to all of us:))

It's not necessarily so...it's really just our feelings that want to correct other people but we musn't forget that they have their own truth about it as we do..

That is the advantage we have here and that is to just move on if one feels uncomfortable involving in discussions that border on unpleasant debates. Just choose the emoticon!!

I do not go into debates. I prefer to air my opinions. If they were convinced to change their perceptions in the process and it was to their benefit then good for them. If not, then it is ok. At least I was able to share.

Yes, I believe the point in that is to share our opinions and in exchange, listen to what they say too. Have a good day

I always wanted to change someones perception in this site, i just wanted them to realize the kind of thought that i want to tell them. But its pretty hard to convince someone who dont want to be convinced ;)i think the mere fact that we people write and read other peoples opinion here is enough for me at least we respect each others opinion.

Yes, at the very least we try to respect other people opinions, but to convince someone has never been easy. It's neither good nor bad to try to change other people's opinions.

Well changing Perception entails telling them to simply accpet our views or demands, and means having rigid views and no space for any leniency or respect for others views. But at the same time thats what debate or even discussion is, trying to persuade others to your point of view. Difference is one means respecting and having possibility of different opinions, other simply demanding others to accpet your point of view, full stop. Of course we all have views we adhere to, way we percieve things, hence it is natural you would want others to align to your point of view. You're in essence persuading or putting your view forward bc at that time thats what you believe to be the best option or view. Of course it depends on many different scenarios, the common topics for example can explain what I mean is Religion and Politics. People do even fight or kill each other on having different religious or political views.
