Library vs Personal Collection

Many time I would rather own a book, rather than borrow a book from the library. Most of the time I enjoy reading a book more than once, and therefore enjoy owning the book to make that easier. The price of books is discouraging, though. Would you rather borrow a book from the library or buy the book flat out and have it for as long as you wish?

I used to go to the library and check out a huge stack of books as a child and read them right away and go back for more. As I got older I found myself renewing the library books a couple times and still not always reading them. I found that if I purchased a book I stood a better chance of reading it for some reason. I don't know why that is. I buy used books quite often and even over the internet you can get them for pennies and just pay a little money for postage. You can get good deals on books at thrift stores also.

I also get many of my books from thrift stores, or as cheap as I can find them online. I occasionally buy them in the mainstream stores...but only if they're on the sales tables. There are many books I want to watch, but I don't have the chance to read them while I'm at college. Instead, I buy them and then wait until my breaks to read them all.

I am sure I have enough books to open a library and yet I keep buying them. I have started doing book reviews so maybe I will read more now.

With a few exceptions, I normally go to the library. I have usually signed up for a library card in new towns that I have moved too. It's a good place for not only checking out books but learning about the 'new' town. I do have a friend that reads the same type of books as I do, so normally we will buy different titles and once we have read them will trade. I also receive books as gifts, and have also given them as gifts. I used to have a large collection, but through several long distance moves in the past several years have had to down-size it.

I love to read, and I try to find the best prices to buy them. lucky for me,there are many places in my area where you can purchase at great prices. I have family and friends who share my interests so we can pass our books on to each other. It saves us all as lot of money.

I typically use the library as a taste test for books and authors or for books and authors that I know I enjoy to read, but not enough to reread any of their material. As I don't have nearly as much money to buy on books, I try to only buy books when it's a book I love or an author I follow. If there is a history of great reads from an author I will pick up their new book without hesitation. The exceptions to this are big book sales where I end up buying a ton of things that look interesting, or when a book just calls to me for some reason and even though I have never read it or anything by the author I buy it anyways. Thankfully I have yet to have buyers regret when it comes to either of these scenarios.

That depends. If the book is readily available in the library, I would just borrow it instead of buying it. Well, since you read a book more than once, maybe you should just own it instead of borrowing it, as it's worth the money.

I love books! I prefer to buy them (new or used) and keep them. Lately I've been collecting series so its better to have them all on hand when you want to go back to some point of the story. If I don't like the book, I can just give it away. But so far, most of my choices are winners.

I would rather purchase a book because I sometimes forget to return the book to the library and end up racking up late fees. And many of the books I read I can't find in the library anyways. I use a website called paperbackswap to swap books so I can control how expensive my reading becomes. If you are interested in the site PM me and I will send you a link to it. Its free to join and all you have to do is pay for shipping when someone requests a book from you. Then you get a credit and can request a book from someone else. Its an even trading system that only cost the users the price of shipping to send books that are requested from them. I have gotten something like 30 books from this site with no problem and it has save me a lot of money.

I have a collection of books in my home, but most of the time I choose to borrow the books at the library instead of buying them. I read a lot, and if I had to buy all of the books that I want to read it would get really expensive, so I think it is great that I am able to borrow the books at the library. If I read a book that I really like I often buy it later on, that way I can read it again when I want to. I also like to buy books at second hand shops, because they are less expensive.

I used to just check out books from the library when I was younger, but now when I read a book, I tend to reread them over and over, so now I buy them. Our local thrift store has paperbacks for 49 cents and hardcovers for 99 cents, and I usually buy them from there because the money goes towards helping people in the community and the books are always in good condition. I have three huge bookcases in my house now full of books and my boyfriend keeps joking that soon we're going to have to add on to the house just to hold all my books haha.

I prefer to own books. I like to buy books new and in hardcover (if available). First reason that I do this is because I like owning my own books. I like having books piled up in my bookshelf and I like dreaming about having my own personal library one day. I like being the first one to break into a book. I like hardcover books because they're durable and they're much more fun for me to read. Second reason is that I want authors to be fed and the publishing industry to continue into the future. When I buy a book new, the author gets royalities and the publisher get the money to print more books for the future! Right now, authors and publishers are in major trouble, so I don't deny myself a book if I have the money to do so. But of course, as a poor college student with no steady job... I don't always have money. So I do visit the library often in order to keep feeding my never-ending habit of reading. I think the library is a great resource and more people should take advantage of it.

I love reading too! My parents got us library cards when we were little and I am really grateful that they did. It depends on the book. Due to the economy being so bad, I am using the library alot more. There are some books that I would enjoy owning but for now that's on hold. I do keep a list of the ones that I really liked and may get them again in the future or buy for my library. Be well!

I prefer the library myself. I can get a book, and read it, then take it back. Most times I only read a book once, so it's best for me because I don't have to spend money on a book I'm only going to read once. There are those rare occasions where I just have to have the book and I'll splurge and buy it, but not very often.

It's better to go to library than owning books. Library have all books that you need especially does books that have sold out already in the market. If your rich, then go to the store and buy the books that you want.Book is for everyone.
