do you ever have days where it just seems like you cannot type to save your life because either your coordination is off or finger stiff etc and you keep making typos on EVERYTHING! do you give up and stop trying to type till your hands and fingers are working or feeling better or do you keep typing and hope the typos you dont catch your friends understand? i hate having to retype everything and some days there is just no way of not being online so what do you do or do you ever experience this?

hi moon, although not trying to sound alarmist, please be careful, this could lead to more serious conditions like carpal tummel syndrome which is a not a very pleasent condition. I would suggest using a different type of keyboard designed to prevent such conditions, starting to use this before this becomes worse could prevent any major issues from happenning.

Yes moon carpal tunnel will affect fingers also, one question? Have you tried attaching and using? because all the devices to help prevent this connect through USB so it should work fine even on a laptop, or the best thing to do is to get a docking station and then attach the devices to that, that will definetly work and you will get a lot of extra USB ports as well :-)

Hey moonlit! I think that you might have "Carpel Tunnel Syndrome". That is what it sounds like from your description! It is what happens to many of us who spend alot of time typing. There are over-the-counter "sleeves or wraps" the you can buy in the stores like Walmart or your local pharmacy stores! They are in the section with ace bandages! They make them to fit your hand/wrist! The have them for knees, ankles and backs too! I have them for just about every body part! They fit your hand/wrist and keep it in a position where it will keep the wrist still, but allow you to type with less pain! It has velcro straps so it is adjustable for your comfort! I have had mine for many years since I was diagnosed with Carpel Tunnel! I was a Legal Secretary and spent 9 hours or more typing Legal Briefs so I really had pain by the end of the day and numbness too! It really isn't expensive and helps rest the wrist quite a bit! You should check it out and if you're not sure ask your doctor!

would that cause so much pain and stiffness in my fingers though?

It could! Spending too much time on the computer can really catch up on you! I spent most of my life typing and was in pain most of the time, but I needed to use my fingers to make money so I worked through it!

Hi moonlitmagikchild. Repetitive Strain injuries can happen to most of us who make use of computers and keyboards for long hours. If I were you I would make sure that the monitor is set to my eye level that I have an adequate chair which can be adjusted according to my height and at the same time I am maintaining eye level with the monitor. Sometimes I feel like pins and needles in my hands or I can't make a fist properly. The doctor suggested to make less use of coffee or at least use decaffeinated coffee which I don't like at all.

Since my job requires entering data into a computer, I can't just stop. What I do is either slow down my typing speed or switch from all 10 fingers to just one or two. Then, the tyypos go away or at least there are a lot less of them.

doesnt that really slow you down when switching to 2?

Not as much as you might think. You have to remember that I am already slowed down because I keep having to go back and correct typos when fingers just don't want to work right and I have found that 2 finger typing is just as fast or maybe even faster than going back to fix everything before I can save the corrected data. Also, I am not talking about typing with one finger on each hand. I am talking about using the index and middle finger on one hand. This is something I taught myself when I had an arm in a sling for a couple of weeks 4 years ago when I injured a rotator cuff. I tried to just type one-handed; all 5 fingers and it wasn't working out very well. Typing with just one finger was slow going; but, I discovered I could add in the middle finger and they worked quite well together. By the time I was allowed to use my injured arm again, I was doing quite well. Not as good as when all 10 are working right; but, a lot faster than just one or both index fingers.

Hi, moon. With me, I will type and I will keep on making typing spelling mistakes as I am typing. This is when I am happy and when I have plenty to say. If I mess up, I will just type again and rewrite what I typed.

I've been doing that for months now, making typos because of a painful finger, that is. I smashed the middle finger of my left hand in my car door on January 7th and it still hasn't healed. I've seen an orthopedic surgeon twice now. He said that there may be an extremely tiny bone fragment or tiny hairline fracture that didn't show up on the X-rays causing it to still be painful and I have two choices: they can open it up to see what's going on or I can wait a few more months to see if it gets better on it's own. It's still swollen and red and the tip is turned downward. (I REALLY smashed it good!) I've chosen to wait but it's causing me to make a bunch of typos that I normally wouldn't because it's painful every time I type with it.

that happens to me lots of times, I was talking to my brother online the other day and he pick up my typo and tease me about it. I start to type slow after he metioned about it. but sometimes I just cannot think how to spell the word, mental block. :(

i hate it when people point out typos.. seems like there are two types of people in the internet world.. ones that dont care and use shorthand and those that get seriously irritated by it.. i try to not use shorthand unless its a text or tweet

To care for you hands, do not wash it for one hour after typing so as not to trigger spasms. Massage your hands and fingers once in a while. Consult your doctor is problems persists.

washing it would cause spasms? or would it be because of the temperature of the water i wash it with?

good thing so far I havent experience that. Well anyway, Id rather invest than spend time for typing like for instance encoding jobs. I found it more rewarding than any other work.

I seem to have pretty steady hands, the only thing that can stop me is either hurt my hand, or have really cold hands ;)
