I wrote a discussion about seeing a horse giving birth the other day. My husband knew there was something wrong so he told the owner and the owner said he would go down there in a few. But he didn't go down and the mother and baby didn't make it. What the heck is wrong with people? You get told your mare is giving birth and looks like she is having trouble. Don't you go down to check it out? I would have! But seems like these people don't have any sense. The mare looked like she was having trouble and my husband told the guy that it didn't look good. We went to town and came back, when we got back a couple of hours later the mare was laying there with her legs stretched out and stiff. We knew that there was something wrong. We went back to town today and sure enough we asked the guy and he said she had died. We are both so mad cause he could have helped her have the baby. So what do you do if you see this going on? Do you jump the fence and try to help or do you do as we did? I wish I had just jumped the fence and seen if I could have done something! These are mentally challenged people but they have several horses and we thought they would do more. So what would you have done in our shoes?

I would've reported them to the ASPCA because it's cruelty.

Hi Janey. I don't know what he did with the horses they were gone when we went by there yesterday. If I do it will cause trouble between my mom and her husband. The only thing I would know what to do is resport it to the vet we take our dog too. We don't really have a pound or anything like that around here we are a real small community.

Oh right, I didn't realise that my friend. Thanks for the explanation and it would definitely be an idea to report it to your vet. Such a sad story though, whichever way you look at it.

My heart is sad knowing the mare and her baby didn't make it - but I am oh, so angry at the owner's lack of interest in the well-being of his animals. He doesn't deserve to have animals if he can't give them the appropriate care.
If you can't report it to the ASPCA, then I would definitely report it to your vet as he might be able to take it further and perhaps get an investigation started as to the capability of these people having any animals. In my eyes they are not fit to own animals.
Thanks for letting us know the outcome of this sad story.

I'm glad your vet will take care of it - something needs to be done to prevent anything like this from happening again. I couldn't sleep last night for thinking about that poor mare and what she went through; a very disturbing story.

Hi Abbey so sorry for not responding sooner but too nice to be inside. I hate these kinds of people that won't take responsibility for their animals. Animals to us are like a 2 year old child still a mess but does their best to please their mommy and daddy. So they should be treated as if they are children, Love tenderness and some discipline. I bet when God seen this man do nothing God must have gotten real mad and this man and anyone cruel to animals will pay for it in Heaven.

I probably would have done what you did, as if something did go wrong, I would not want the blame. I cannot believe they could not be bothered. That is so sad.

Oh that is terrible.
I think I would call animal services immediately in the hope that they would get the help they need as quickly as possible. Once taht call has been made then I would try and help as best I could until the professionals arrive. How anyone can do that to any animal is beyond belief.

Hi Hofferp. I would have turned them in if the horse had still been lying where I seen her when I wrote the other discussion. But he had moved her and don't know what he did with her. I was so pissed made me want to scream at him. But he is mentally challenged and really don't think he takes things in.

Hello it it is certainly a sad incident, i too will feel bad and gone mad, this reminds me of an incident a man was travelling with his pregnant wife in bus in our place, the bus was too crowded it was jerking terribly, this probably triggered labor pain, the woman started moaning in pain
Some ladies helped her, created a sort of covering around, lol she gave birth to a cute baby girl
God is great
Happy posting, cheers

Hi Professor. That is a wonder of God giving birth. Is the mother and baby okay? It is good when there are people that will help strangers, who knows it may be like in the bible where the LORD visited someone 3 times in one day as a stranger and the person helped the LORD all 3 times. You never know who the person is your helping can be good or can be bad, but better to at least try to help then do nothing at all. Thank God there was people there to help this lady and her baby. God is Great Amen!

When animals litter, especially the domestic animals, the caretakers presence is a must. Even we can supervise the littering process, as we do for dogs. If the animal is a stray one, there are plenty of social organisations and animal care take centre who come forward to assist the animal in distress.
