Last evening i asked my son to take me to some saloon to get a hair cut, i came to this city a month ago with his family, he too is new to this place, he has joined his new job here. He took me to one marked 'Beauty Parlor for man- Air conditioned'. Friends i believe in frugal living, though i have enough money. I told him to go for another, not air conditioned, we entered another, got a hair cut, no shave or dye, i don't have much hair left, so the cut took 10 minutes, but the charge was 40 rupees, in my city i pay 15 only for this, that is the rate. Well this is a metro, people earn more spend more. Usually, when i go out from my city, i get a haircut done in my own place, this is once a month, i shave daily at home and dying of hair is done by my wife or daughter in law using a powdered hair dye, after i come home from hair cut. My wife has also lost most of her hair, but still has much, she does not visit parlors either, my daughter in laws visit and pay 80 rupees for trimming the tip of hair. What about you, do you visit beauty parlors and saloons, how frequently, how much you pay? My male friends can tell me if they get shaved in a saloon or in home, what about dying the hair, how much you pay, please share. Happy posting. Prof

I don't do salons that much. I cut both my girls hair and my own and am much happier with the results. Last time I went to a salon I paid $90.00.

Very carefully. lol I just take the hair up and cut the length I want off and then cut the rest even with it then go and do spot checks. If it helps you could have one mirror in front of you and one behind you to see the back of you head. Here are some videos for that may help http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KcSo4p-hhBs

Hi Professor, getting a haircut to me is something I don't enjoy, and only do when necessary, for I don't like long hair, and like it tidy. However I only go to barber shops where possible, not a beauty salon. The price of a haircut in Thailand, is only a fraction of the charge here in Australia. I can't wait to return.

Mine is a long involved story Professor, but briebly I was made redundant in Australia, at 57 years old. I was considered too old to get further employment, so went to Thailand where I taught English until the end of 2008. I have to be on the pension for two years in Australia, before I can get it paid in Thailand. Now my wife (I married a Thai National in 2001) and I are seperated, however I can return in December this year, and that's what I'm looking forward to. Thanks Professor.

Haircuts for men have become gradually more and more expensive here in the UK, especially for me because my hair is very thick and grows very quickly. It isn't in any particular style so one day I purchased a hair-cutting kit which contained of a set of clippers with various size combs that I could just run through my hair as if combing it slowly and it would cut it all at the same length. I was a bit nervous at first, but it worked really well. I have now saved a lot more money than the £30 (BG Pounds) the clippers have cost me. They even trip the back nicely too. I use two mirrors to do this but I am sure I could do it without because it never cuts off more or less than what I set the comb too. _Derek

hello professor, metro prices are really high and sometimes service in our own homes are better. i go to the salon ones every two months to have a hair cut or trim. i get a pedicure and sometimes a manicure twice a month. the haircut costs around 60 pesos, already with shampoo and blower. pedicure costs 40, and also 40 for manicure. if i like my hair dyed, it will cost around 150 to 200 pesos. have a nice day. ann

I pay $15 to ge my hair cut each month. It can be very cheap depending on the location your getting it($8 some places). Some places can cost 5 times more just because the area can tend to have people with a lot of money.

Hello Prof... I also stay in a metro and trust me, 'life in a metro' has become more expensive than ever. The rates keep changing (or increasing) all the time and we can't help it. The salary raise is once in a year and the rates change once or twice (sometimes thrice too) every month... Well... I pay Rs. 30/- here for hair cut. Shaving is done at home only! No dying and stuff (I am still young). Have a nice time!

Welcome Pearl, which city you live, the barbers have their own associations and one of the corrupted politicians is usually their Secretary/President etc, they change rates frequently Thanks for response Prof

Hello Sir... Well... I live in Pune... There are a few barbers in the city who charge Rs. 200/- to Rs. 2000/- for a simple hair cut... Wonder what they do? In any case, I don't plan to try it now (not until I get a good raise in my salary )... Have a nice time, Sir!

For me, a beautician comes home and does required beauty cares for me. I do not go for many things. I am usually a simpleton. Just for caretaking, I get fruit facial done once in three months, which is Rs. 800/- outside in beauty parlour, but my beautician does it for Rs.300/-. Same time I get pedicure and hair trimming done. Otherdays I do pedicure for myself. Pedicure costs Rs. 120/- and hair trimming costs Rs.40/-.

Hi, Professor2010. When my son or husband goes to get their haircut they will pay between $5-10. And when I will get my hair washed and pressed, I will pay at least, $20-40. Usually, I will pay up to $25.00. It all depends on who I know personally and if they know someone that I know. That type of thing... I admit that $40.00 rupees/dollars is a lot of money to pay someone for cutting your hair. You may just have to stick to just getting your hair cut in the city that you live in. $40.00 is an expensive price for an hair cut.

Hi Professor! Here in the US it is very expensive for men and women to get their hair cut! It can cost women from $60 to over $150 to get their hair styled which means cut and if they want if dyed then it costs twice as much! I used to get mine cut and then would have one of my friends dye it for me at home! Now I have been cutting it myself and my boyfriend dyes it for me! If I decide to have it cut again in a layered cut then I will have to go back to a hair stylist! My boyfriend gets his hair cut about once a month and pays around $25 which isn't too bad!

Hi, Here at my place a haircut can go upto around Rs.1500/- but I have never and will never visit such an obnoxious place. At the local salon at vicinity they charge 30/- and its the cheapest and quite decent I guess. My work takes me to different places and once I was at Adilabad, border of Maharashtra and Andhra, they charged me Rs. 10 and i was like hit by a bolt. So well it depends where we stay! Bodhi

I get my hair cut about once every two to three months. I'm not particularly picky about my hair cuts, so I don't spend a lot on it, I will pay 12 USD for a hair cut at a large chain haircutting establishment. Now, for my son and my husband, I have clippers here at home and I will trim their hair myself whenever it needs it. We aren't really highly focused on vanity so none of us use money on getting our hair colored.
