Tv is reflection of society.
It reflects cultural , economical , physical world led by us only .Why then we call it a idiot box?
I think it all depends on a viewer that how he/she wants to deal with it.

I think it has been called an idiot box because all a person does is sit there all day and do nothing. However, more informative and educational shows are being produced so I'd have to disagree with that old label of TV. Also, it depends on the person watching. Anyone can pick up moral or at least a few academic lessons in even the most silliest of shows. I picked up a lesson from a children's TV show when I was a kid and I was able to answer a science question in our examination at school.

I think it is called that because if you just watch TV all day, and get all your info from there, then you might become not very knowledgeable. There are so many other things to learn, and see, than just from the TV as a resource. I think that is why it is called that. Of course TV has come a long way since even ten years ago. There are so many educational resources available now, it really probably does not even apply to that term anymore.

Hello quickstar ;)
Well maybe you are right, i mean it depends on the viewer, like if they like watching those good for nothing shows then they might justify the tagged name of tv. ;) But if people use their tv's to watch informative talk shows or news that matters then the said name for tv is not applied. ;)
