how do you choose your internet service provider?

do you choose them based on price?
do you choose them based on availability?
do you choose them based on what package you can get like a combo of phone or cable and the like?
It is interesting here at my lady's place she has the DSL package and it is nice and fast and so much faster then the old dial up that we used to have a few years ago and I would never go back to that ever after having the faster speed.
At my parents place they have the cable package which is less if you get it as part of the cable package that you have so you can save a little bit on it as part of it dad was able to get an upgraded package for only 2.00 more, since he had the cable modem with it so that ended up being a pretty nice deal there.
So depending on what company you choose or what package you have what do you think is the best company out there based on what you can get and the price?
do you ever have connection issues?
any stories about this would be appreciated.

i choose both, the cheaper price and fast connection, theres much cheaper than what we have but the connection is very slow so we just decided to use the one that even coz hundred dollars more as long as its fast then its alright. what matter is faster connection.

there are so many options now compared to a few years ago it seems that everyone has the high speed now that I know and now you can get it to go with your phone or your cable package so you get it all as one price, which worked out well with my parents and where I live they have the dsl so it goes into the phone bill and it isn't too bad of a price as I could never see going back to dial up ever again after having the faster connection.

In the past I have had different kinds of internet connections. In the beginning I always had a wired connection, but the last few years I have had a wireless internet connection. My father also has wireless internet and he recommended a company. I didn't know much about it, so I just chose the same company. It worked fine while I was living in a big city, but when I moved to a village in the countryside the connection became very slow and unstable. I decided to try a different company, and that was the right decision, because they are cheaper and their wireless internet works better even in the countryside. It is unstable sometimes, but most of the times it works relatively well.

I have never had the wireless connection as I am still getting the hang of my laptop and don't have the extra to use the wireless part of it yet so I just use it at home as I would the desktop, but I still like the speed and portability that it provides and not sure how reliable the wireless connection is, but if it was reliable I would probably more inclined to use it more often.

I always choose my provider based on availability. Last summer I actually went through 3 providers in a 2 month period. The provider I had at first changed their system and only offered dsl (which we can't get over our out-dated phone lines outside on the poles.) So, they switched me to the next closest provider that offered service out in the country here. Then after a couple of weeks, I got a notice from them that they were changing the dial up number, and then it was going to be a long distance charge on top of the internet fee. I cancelled them and ended up going with my local phone company, who has a number that is local. Such a headache! I could get it with my sattelite dish service, but that costs an arm and a leg lol. I have connection issues quite often, most of the time when it rains or is a heavy fog. You know, if the phone company would just do their job and replace those old lines on the poles down the road, none of us in this area would have any problems at all! Mine is through Windstream, and I think they're great. Anytime I had a problem, they were always courteous and tried their best to solve the issue.

Man I can't even imagine those kind of problems like you went through the only times at my parents we ever had problems is when we would get bad storms and that could knock out the power other then those times the connections were great.
The same at my lady's place the connection which is DSL there and cable at my parents no connection problems unless the power went out which is a rare thing up there.
It sure sounds like what you went through would be quite a headache and trying to go through the satellite would be a pain, especially if you got any heavy storms, because you usually lose the signal if you get heavy rain.

Speed of the connection is important. So when we selected our provider we went with that. Next was how much it would cost us. We ultimately ended up with a cable package.

when my parents got the cable modem it was able to be put into an upgraded cable package so they got a whole segment of extra channels too for just 2.00 more, since they were getting the cable modem so it ended being a really good deal for them and they installed it for free at the time they signed up for it.

When I moved to where I live now, I ran an internet comparison check to see who provided service, what level of net speed and the prices. I ended up just like your family getting the best deal from my cable company. Tho the prices were in place for a set time period and now I have to check them again. I will go thru the same process as before. Having reliable internet is key for me since I use it daily for business so that leaves out dsl and other lesser options. And if you use the net to price out the services make sure you print the best prices you find cause then you can possibly use that to negotiate the price down with competitors. I'd avoid signing any contract tho since that seems to be a new trend that some cable and net providers are doing to try and lock folks in for 2 years. Good Luck!!

yeah I would not want to be locked into a contract for that long of a period of time, because who knows what could happen in that long of a period of time and you may be able to afford it now, but things can change quickly.
It is always nice to have a reliable connection and one that is not costing us an arm and a leg to have it and so far I am happy with what we have.

Yes I would go for the packege and the service provider of it.Because in my country what we have right now is dsl which is running and competing between isp providers. And just early this year the cable internet was introduced in our place and cable operators give a trial packege to their customers. The speed was quiet awesome not like the dsl.I had an internet connection last year in which I decided to terminate because of its intermittent connection. I tried to hook up again or subscribe late last year and this time I don't encounter any problem. Same ISP

whatever you can get that works the best for you that is the most efficent for the best price.
We are limited to whatever is available in our area and for our areas where I lived one could only get the cable package and the other was easier to get the DSL with the phone company and both worked great in my opinion.

While choosing the Service provider most important thing for me is the availability and then comes services.

yeah that is the main thing the service you want needs to be available in your area.
when we upgraded at my parents house the first thing we looked into was the DSL, but even though it was based just into town they didn't have it for this area up here so that took us to the cable company and ended up getting us the cable modem and it is nice and fast too honestly I can't tell the difference and for the price they got for it that made sense and since it was the only one that was easily available that made it an easy choice.

before we had our dsl connected we asked our neighbors about their isp, so after choosing the company, it was time to examine their internet plans/bundle. waht i am facing now is that i am stuck with our contract, three more months, but a day ago they are offering a faster service at a much lower price. Silly Companies!
