Do you make it a point to smile?

I've noticed myself frowning recently. I saw myself in the mirror while doing some physical therapy exercise and I was frowning. I don't want to end up with a permenant frown, so I'm making an effort to smile more. Doing the physical therapy reminds me that I'm supposed to be smiling. I think I look pretty silly. Do you try to smile often?

You do frown when you are in pain. I lived 7 years in constant pain and I have frown lines. I am glad you have noticed this and will try to smile. We need to it takes less muscles to smile than it does to frown. Keep up the good work.

I hope you are not still in constant pain. I have always heard that it takes less muscles to smile than to frown, so I wonder why it seems so easy to frown. I frown without thinking about it and have to make an effort to smile.

Yes, caver1, I do smile as often as I can. It can be hard at times when life gets in the way, but smiling and laughing really make me feel better. Like you, I do notice that I frown sometimes and quite frankly, it hurts the face. HA!! Did I make you smile. I'm trying. Keep smiling. All the best to you.

I am in the habit of trying to make a point to smile, a smile can really change someone's day. There's the quote that goes something like this "Stop Frowning, You never who's waiting to fall in love with your smile" or something like that.

Well yes, I try to manage a smile even if I'm down because it helps me a lot. It is as good as a good laugh. Most of us forget to smile.

I think its pretty hard to smile while doing any type of exercise. We might look pretty silly with a big grin while trying to lift heavy weights for instance! But I do try to smile. If I am out for a walk and another person is passing me I will smile and nod. What is that old saying..smile it increases your face value!

Thanks for your answer. I don't know how long I'll be doing physical therapy. I have a frozen shoulder. I've heard estimates of 1 - 3 years for recovery. Not a very hopeful outlook, but I'm trying to stay positive.

Sometimes i do sometimes i dont. When im infront of someone , like in a meeting business meeting i tend to smile alot even if i dont like the person im smiling to. But because i need to i have to smile. But after sometime my jaw is tired lol.But to the question do i make it a point to smile? no, there are times that i just dont feel like it , im that honest in my life, if i dont have a reason to smile then i dont. I dont care if people tag me as a killjoy or someone whose short tempered because the reality is thats me. Smiling is done when your happy feeling fulfilled or with someone you like, its not something that you have to do all day without any reason at all;)

Yes, I have to especially in the nature of my business where I deal with customers. Eventhough I'm having a bad day I see to it that I accommodate them well and try to give them a smile. Sometimes when people don't see you smile that often they will have the impression that you're a snobbish person and that is not a good reflection of you as a person, so smile avoid frowning. Just like what the song says, 'smile though you're heart is aching!'

I also wait on customers and try to be pleasant and smile. But when I'm thinking on a problem and how to solve it, I think then I'm frowning. Your song reminds me of a song I learned as a child. It went like this: It isn't any trouble just to S-M-I-L-E. It isn't any trouble just to S-M-I-L-E. So whenever you're in trouble it will vanish like a bubble, if you'll only take the trouble just to S-M-I-L-E!

Yes. :) I'm jolly by nature. People's impression of me is that I'm not capable of getting mad. Funny but they think of me that way. It is maybe because they see me as a happy person, who always puts a smile on her face. I just love smiling & greeting people around (a simple "Hi" or "Hello" will do). But of course, that impression that I don't get mad is wrong. I think all people get mad even the happiest person on earth might have gotten mad at one point of his life. =P

I think you are right that everyone gets mad sometimes. But some people get mad and lose their temper, yell, rant and rave. While others control their anger better.

I try to always remember to smile! It makes the person looking at you feel good! Plus I think it feels good yourself to have a smiling face. I just think people look better when they're smiling too. I guess I don't always have it on my mind to remember to smile, but I do try my best!

I sure look better smiling than frowning, but like you, I don't always have it on my mind to smile. I am smiling now since this discussion is a reminder. I need more reminders.

I really do whenever and wherever. I would rather try to put a smile on my face than answering my friends question to why I am frowning. I do get tired answering those questions to why this and that. So I definitely make a point to always put a smile on my face even if I am down and out.

So it is easier for you to try to look happy than to deal with the noisy questions. Sure, I guess there are some things I'd rather not talk about either.

i dont want to smile alone as it makes me feel crazy, unless i saw something nor heard something that was funny then maybe i will smile, nor if i talk to someone whose funny or if we are talking funny things then thats the only time i will smile. but if theres no reason to smile at all then why wold i smile. better yet to watch funny movies instead and not to smile alone without any reason.

That is how I've always been. Not smiling most of the time. I'm wanting to change that and hopefully change my chances of ending up with a permanent frown.

I think I am one of those people who has a permanent frown on the face. So smiling alwyas take extra effort. Although I would enjoy a joke here and there, I think my frown has already set in. But you are right, I should start smiling. I read somewhere that it isn't only good for the people that you smile at, it also has its benefits to ones' self. I am smiling right now, and you're right, I look silly.

That's what I always forget to do...smile. I mean if there's nothing to smile about, why should I? But recently, I also noticed that my wrinkles are building up in my forehead. I just thought it's because of my age, I'm 48, you know. But last month, I got to bump off a high school classmate and I noticed that she's got less wrinkles than mine. She said that she made it a point to smile always because she said that smiling exerts less face muscles than frowning aside from not stressing herself so much. So, I think I should work out a routine of smiling every time, I guess, it's easier to do than frown.

I've heard that also, about smiling taking less muscles than frowning. What I don't understand is why it seems so much easier to frown.

Yes, because smiling eliminates my stress and litfs up my spirit. Thankfully, in our home, i have so many reasons to smile because of the hapiness and the people that surrounds me, even if i don't want to smile not possible to frown.

What a nice thing to say about your home. I do think that smiling lifts your spirits and the spirits of those around you.
