I've been hearing this word prominently used in the arena of politics in out country. Wha/who does it refer to? What is its exact definition/description in simple terms?

Trapo means Traditional politician and this term refers to politician who adhered to the old principle and tradition of politics--the rigid concept of taking the role of being a public servant by refusing to accept the revolutionary changes in political system. Traditional politicians are never engaging and very close minded. Most of them never acknowledge reconciliation and unity as vehicles of change, they think too much about themselves.

They don't have political will. I think they just want to have a position in the government to amass a lot of wealth. It's their number one priority and not public service. I'm still confused if I'll vote this election because I don't think it will make a difference. It's really negative this way but I'm sorry, I just think that Philippine politics has no future anymore.

hunterkim, literally, trapo stands for the traditional politician who only seek office to benefit himself. Metaphorically, these politicians are likened to a basahan or rag because all the constituents want to do is to step on them.

Hello hunterkim, Trapo is a traditional politician. the public servants who makes great speeches but doesn't do them, instead he/she does other things like general corruption. activities like getting money from pork barrel and putting it in they're savings lessening the budget of the people and divert to private business. and lastly use government funds to campaign for their election. more likely what Gloria Arroyo did.

Or should we say just like what our politicians are doing now. I'm sorry to say but I believe that there are no clean politicians anymore here in the Philippines. Everyone is corrupt and are only serving their own interests and not the people. Though I don't have the right to judge people, I just feel it that way and it's just an opinion. God help the Philippines.
