How Do You Interpret Holy Week? What Is Holy Week, Anyway?

As I opened my TV set, an interview with personalities met my eyes. Others plan to go to several beaches, some prefer to spend time with their families, and many chose to stay at home. Others also promise not to eat meat or fatty foods. Now, I wonder what significance does it take for us Christians in celebrating Holy Week. Do we really understand what it means?

I don't practice holy week because it is unbiblical, and so it is unholy week.

Hi, In my view the concept of 'holy week'is nothing but faith put into the mind of people so that they do not indulge in any 'evil' (?) deeds on those days that are described as holy weeks. This is totally a religious concept where there are some material advantage for the people too. In the ancient time people were not literate nor they understood many complicated interpretations on life and living. One thing is sure that if nothing else they were afraid of the wrath of angry God and and just to pacify Him they could carry out whatsoever were passed on to by the chief of the community. And the same tradition is still there as the number of atheist has not come down to zero level. The benefit thing here is that when one is observing ;holy week' he/she abstains from eating meat or the things alike. This is important for our digestive system. As we need rest after work our stomach too needs some respite and thus people have little bowel trouble and if the bowel is functioning well rest of the parts of the body too would work normally. Thus we can see that many of the dos and do nots that we get from religion have logic attached to them.

I think Holy Week is abstaining to the food that we eat.We make prayer and fasting so that our spirit makes stronger. Our body is compose of spirit, soul and body.
