Politics here in the Philippines has always been dirty, filthy, you name it! Why is it that our politicians/government officials are so corrupt? And there we have candidates who are telling us that they are going to fight corruption? How? By also doing it themselves? They can't trick us with their words anymore. I don't know who to vote because I don't believe that there are still good and God - fearing politicians nowadays. Politicians are politicians and there is no difference among them.

dirty politics is not only in the Philippines, it is most likely to be everywhere. and corruption is also everywhere, where poor people are. in our country, we learned that politicians will do their best, show and release all the money they have and even money they still have to get or money of others. they believe that when they get voted they can get back the money they lost or spent during the campaign period. if you are looking for a real good and god fearing candidates, we can try Bangon Pilipinas with Eddie Villanueva. but even if i know him and his wife for years, i just can't believe he will win, because of the thinking of the people. or because of the money of the other candidates. someone will say, i rather not vote (sayang lang ang boto ko)

i am not telling i am for bro. eddie, i just mentioned him because the poster said, if we are looking for a real good and god fearing, it would be him. but i am not concluding my statement and it is only for this discussion. and mind you, i am not campaigning for him. but if god will make his way for bro. eddie, then why not. and if that happens, we can be sure of a better philippines, i guess. right, ybong?

oh, so you're with eddie, huh? really? because he has a lot of tarpaulins here beings posted by his followers. not to mention he has a school and another church here in our subdivision. brother eddie, i admire him for not backing out on debates and issues. too bad they didn't have a square off with gordon-bayani tandem. i have watch yasay's arguments and they are good as well.

I am a witnessed to that corruption going on to our country. The only I can see is that because of greediness, because they praise the money too much. They know for a fact that being in the government or in a position it would be easy for you to get a budget for this and that and later a kick back.. Isn't so simple to be rich in the government. Anyways, I already have a bet for the up coming elections. I hope he is not the same with others.

by this time, i still haven't decided who to vote for or if i will vote. they all got the same strategies and their platforms varies so slightly. corruption is always there, but we can only tell they are not one, when they are already seating in the palace. let us just hope we can have a cleaner and trusted elections this may. let's cross our fingers.

by the way, if you are working with the government, we have the same sentiments.

How can I vote if I'll crossed my fingers? Joke.. kidding aside. Once they will seat in the palace that would be the time we can judge the next president. Of course platforms just varies very slightly because they know what are the concern or issues most of the filipinos. So they put all the concern so that they can attract more voters.
Hoping for the best for the next election. That's all I can say.

I totally agree with you. I think I have lost faith in Philippine politics. The problem with our politicians is that they have a lack of nationalism within themselves. They really don't care about the country nor the people. They only care about their own family and their own future. If they only have a nationalistic and selfless attitude, then they would not be corrupt.

Isn't it amazing that this day was prophecied about over 3,000 years ago:
2nd Timothy 3:2
But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good,
traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,
having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!
Now if that doesn't describe the day we're living in, I'd like to know.

Hello hunterkim,
please don't single out our country because they are other countries there that actually worse than the Philipines. that's because we let it happen, some are benefitting from corruption that they allow this and then regret later on resulting to being a whistle blower. no matter god-fearing politician is, if they don't have political will then they couldn't afford to be true leaders.

Political will -- doing unpopular acts just to get the job done.
Unpopular acts -- things that should be done but aren't done because it won't be understood by the majority of people.
If that's what you're looking for a leader, why not try Bayani Fernando.
If he run for president, I would vote for him... no question about that.

Hi, hunterkim. I think not only Philippines which has corrupt politicians. Here in my country, Indonesia, also has many corrupt politicians. and the worst is, as I read in an article, my beloved country was number three or four in the most corrupted country in the world. what a great achievement, ha? LOL. I think corruption is a lifestyle, so if we want to eliminate it, we should start it from ourselves. if we have a good deed, it will reflects to all aspects in our life.

Was the Philippines number 1 on the list? Haha! If so,then there's no doubt about that. I agree with you that corruption is already a lifestyle for most of us. I just have this big doubt if this can still be eliminated in our society.

Me too! I agree that politics is a lifestyle.
Nowadays, people who are well off are looked up by other people. So, those who wants this kind of lifestyle are trying to find ways on how to become rich by all means.
Politics offers a lot of of enjoyment in life such as power, plenty of money, respect, special treatment, business protection, body guards being paid by the government, you name it.
But the root of all this lifestyle matter is greed, pride and no faith in GOD.
I believe corruption will exist and transfer from our generation to more generations to come. Current corrupt politicians will just pass on to their heir the lifestyle, principles and strategies.
For me, the only way to change this is a concerted effort of everybody to change their views in lifestyle.
Simple lifestyle, simple way of living and sharing of happiness & greatness!

I am witnessed to that corruption going on to our government. The reason why there is corruption I guess because of the greediness or the love of money. They praised the money too much that is why they just corrupt to get more and earn some more. You know its so easy to get money from our government if we are in the position. Just a simple project and a huge budget kick back everywhere.. No wonder there is no poor politician.

I am also a witness to massive corruption (including vote-buying) in the government because I'm working in the government. Lately, our salary here are being held because the governor would order to hold the budget for our salaries and allot the budget first to pay the suppliers, which are their own businesses. Since she stepped as our governor 9 years ago, her family has had so many businesses. I don't know how they were able to build such huge businesses because the salary of a public official is not that high. You would really wonder and ask, but the answer is quite simple. They are very corrupt and I think it will continue to tarnish the image of our politicians and public officials forever.

No wonder why they have those businesses and he is a governor in your town. If the ombudsman will going to ask about the assets and liabilities. But can always escape that one. But its beyond of their corrupting if your salaries will be put on hold just for them to pay the supplier. That is so much...

It is because of the environment surrounding the philippine government system. The climate for corruption is very ripe for the picking if there are a lot of people working below the standard income level, if there are hungry people and a lot of un-educated children. You want to to do your part? then go out and vote, whether you like 'em or not, you got to pick among the lesser evil. vote on someone you believe would do well in government. Do not abstain yourself or else your supposed vote will go to someone you do not like to lead the nation.

Almost every where politicians are corrupt. We are encouraging politicians. We elect them as our representatives. We now they are corrupt and we elect them on the basis of our own statistics. First of all why should we elect them as our representatives knowing that they are corrupt. It looks awkward because they tell us they eradicate corruption. So its better to keep away from politics.

I agree. It's better not to mess up with it since it's apparent that it has become part of our community already. How poor. That's why the Philippines has not been progressing until now.

well, for me, being corrupt is instinct to each individuals even if it is not politicians, there so many ways that we can make corruption,
First, if your employed in a certain company, you have paid 8 hrs a day to work, and yet you did not work it out for 8 hrs, for so many reasons you decided to go home early, but your DTR is completely 8 hrs, you can now corrupt the time,,it loose a lot in favor of the company..
secondly, if you have given a budget to buy in the certain thing in that certain amount which is exactly to the budget, but you only bought a smaller amount. thats also corrupt.
we can never deny that politicians are corrupt, its because of their self interest,, and they dont have fair to do that way in the eyes of God... The best thing to do as citizens, since election is very fast approaching, we should ask God a guidance to choose which is able and capable to the certain position,.. We must choose the trully God-fairing man, who has convicted the holy spirit or shall we called as Spiritual man... We have the right to vote for a righteous man. that we can rest the corrupt politicians..
Thank you my friends...

because all they do is steal money from other people's pocket. and since they are lawmakers, they can easily get away with it if got caught. you have noticed how many politicians get rich, how few impeachment trials are there while fewer got really impeached for corruption charges.
they are above the law so no one dares to fight them unless he did something drastic

I dont know why they need to be selfish about power and everything else in their hands and saying that they can make our lives full of hope. We have the worst politicians in the Philippines. Filipinos like us should choose the best candidates. Candidates maybe can corrupt but made great differences and great accomplishments to their own reign in the city or province.
Don't vote for Villar!

a lot of Filipinos are NOT aware that they are SUPPORTING corrupt leaders. They turn a blind eye on the corrupt practices of councilors, mayors, congressmen, senators, cabinet members, judges, justices etc including the 'big boss' of them all. They easily fall for empty promises. Many think political candidates are sincere when they say "at your service..". Wake up Filipinos, wake up!!
So don't be a goofball and go around campaigning for corrupt politicians.

I think politicians are the same everywhere. They will fight tooth and nail to race for the country's hot chair. They are in the mercy of the voters during an election and are willing to walk miles and miles under the hot sun to gain sympathy votes and some use money to bribe the hardcore poor who are easily influenced by their sweet talks. Money politics as they call it here is very common in my country. But once they win, it will be a different scenario altogether as their main intention is wealth and power. They will take every opportunity while in office to enrich themselves and their cronies. Within a year or two in office, you will see them having big mansions and driving luxury cars. The promises they made with their grassroot supporters remain a dream. Their economic situation of the voters have not improved but maybe the worse is yet to be seen as their welfare is nobody's business now.
A truly great person never forgets that he is an instrument for the service humanity.

One reason politicians are so corrupt is its a part of their culture. Someone new to the political scene thinking that they can do the right and just work for the people who sent them there soon find out there is no such thing as honesty or right or wrong. The person either joins forces with the rest or be blacklisted. This happen in all walks of life you’re either with the status quo or against the status quo...

Corruption is rampant nowadays because there are politicians who take politics as business. Business in which they can earn a lot without doing any hard work. They over exercise their powers. Power to control the poor, power to manipulate the truth and power to get all the things they desire. Nevertheless, I am still hopeful that there are still good politicians out there. Though they are small in number but at least. I know a good politician who uses his power to protect the weak and he uses his wealth for everybody's sake. I do adore this politician because of all the things he've done for our place. I hope and pray the next leaders of this country are like him.

Well corruption has no boundaries, yes we might not be corrupt now but when your holding such power you'll never know. Every country experiences the same thing they deal with corruption may it be on the government, in the office or even just inside your own house. Corruption happens when someone is tempted to use the power that they have to manipulate or take advantage of others. As bad as it may seem,it is very much likely to happen to just bout anybody.I think with the proper attitude , guidance from good people and good behavior to just bout anything that you do, you will be able to fight off corruption but theres no one in this world that is corrupt proof. Anybody is vulnurable ;)

i think it is because we have very less people who are really truthful, a real people who are against corruption. As for example, many people who says are fighting against corruption found a man corrupting a million dollar, and the man tells him to not to tell anyone and share half a million, then it will be very difficult to reject it. If all of us has a chance to corrupt, only few will really reject the chance. So people who doesn't had a chance criticize the ruling party and when they got the chance, they swap their job....
