Can you influence your dreams at night? How do you do it?

LOL I badly wanna dream about someone. I told a friend about it. She told me that if you really wanna dream about something (or someone), you just have to focus on it (or him/her) before you go sleep. She even does this regularly because it has helped her connect to her deceased grandparents. And she is also able to dream that dream that I want. I tried what she told me last night but I still failed, in fact I cannot even remember my dream. Are you able to influence what you wanna dream about during sleep? How do you do it?

Hi mjcookie, Dreams are the result of the three different state of our mind or consciousness. If you are occupied by a particular thing for considerably a longer period this sis sure that you would dream about that sooner or later. In your friend's case she must be having stronger hold on her concentration and therefore she dreams whatsoever she wants to. Dreams basically are the reflection of our unconscious and subconscious mind. Some time they come in the dream in the exact form as you know and some time in a symbolic form. Like your friend I too can influence my dreams. Suppose I was dreaming something pleasant and suddenly the sleep got broken and and when I go sleep again I can see the remaining part of the whole part of the episode. This is interesting.

Wow that is fantastic. The same thing happens to me but the difference is that it happens for nightmares instead of sweet dreams. Every time I wake up in the middle of a very bad dream and then I go back to sleep, the bad dream continues till the end. I wish I could do the same for sweet dreams, maybe it takes time and practice. Thank very much for that great comment.

Yeah, nightmare sort of things happen with me too sometime but too less. And i think you too would be able to steer your dreams towards your way and a little more effort is needed. all the best.

There was a time that I wanted to dream about my favorite celebrity crush, I hid his photo under my pillow because when I was young, I've heard that if you just put the photo of someone you want to dream about under you pillow and you'll dream about him/her. Well, I did that and it's successful. I dreamed of him and I was able to control it, probably because I know I was dreaming. To be able to control your dream, you must know first that you are dreaming and once you know that you're dreaming, control it!

Woah, it's actually a celebrity that I am talking about. Hahah. I think that is called "lucid dreaming", wherein a person is aware that he/she is dreaming and then he/she participates actively to control it. Thanks autumn.

I do think that we dream about our desires and hidden wishes. I think that our subconscious does take over our control when we are sleeping. We do dream about our hidden desires, about our daily events, about our life in general, our worries, our future plans. I do not often remember what I dream about. It is a rare occasion when I wake up in the morning and I do remember what I have dreamed about. Most often it would be a horrible dream. I don't know whether if we try to influence our dreams, will work out or not, as I do think our subconscious will take over us while we are sleeping

That's what my friend told me that that person that she likes very much is already in her subconscious by always thinking of him, that is why she doesn't have a hard time dreaming about him. Thanks for the response.

i think you can do this by just thinking alot about the person and then sometimes your subconscience will keep thinking of them.

Hey mj! I just finished reading a book on dreams and the author did say the same thing that your friend told you to do! If you concentrate on the person that you want to dream about it is possible. And what is even more possible is if you want to contact someone who is gone "home" (deceased) and have a "visit" with them if you think about them, pray for about them it is possible to have what is called an "astral visit" with them and you can also sometimes actually remember it! It was a pretty complicated book! It took me a long time to read it because it involved all different types of dreams! But, it was very interesting and informative! But, I am still having strange dreams that I still can't understand or explain so I'm not sure that it helped me!

So it's true. :) Well you know what I've read an article that says eating cheddar cheese can influence your dreams, and it is a proven fact. It's weird. Thank you anyway for that informative response and good luck to you!

Its very dificult to influence your dreams but its possible I've done it a few times before the trick is to think about somthing you find pleasant at least 20 to 30 minutes before you fall asleep make sure your already lying down in your bed and theres nothing else in your room to distract you from your thoughts that means no TV, or if you have a TV in your bed room turn it off, there must be nothing to distract you from whatever pleasant thoughts your having and choose. Its almost like a form of hypnoses kind of like a subliminal message, because by the time you fall asleep those thoughts are still in your brain of course the patterns change a bit that part you cannot control but most of what you thought about before you sleep will be in your dream, like I said its very dificult but not impossible I've done it more then once, but it dosent work all the time.

USe their photo was your computer wall paper. That way you will be sure to see them. Keeping them in mind somehow is always a good start.

LOL I always do that desktop wallpaper thing. I always think of that person as well, but my friend told me that there is a different approach to how one thinks of him so he could be in her dreams.

There have been a lot of times that I want to be able to dream of the guy I like. I also read in a magazine that you just think of him then there is a possibility that you will dream of him. I tried doing that, to no avail. For me, thinking of someone so that you will dream of that person is not true. That has not happened to me yet.

It is a very interesting question, but yes somehow i do feel that i have the capacity to influence my dream once in a while. It all seems like a movie that's running in my head. But it is also true that i do not remember most of my dreams on waking up in the morning.

yah sometimes gonna happend the could turn into reality in our life. but sometimes bad dreams turn into great dream in reality. so if had a bad or a good dream just take it as a dream always and wait for the following days if your dreams become true in reality . for it could influence the people lives.

I dont think you can directly influence your dreams. I mean they just come out randomly. Like there are some that are claiming that they can make you influence your dreams but i doubt it. Your unconscious mind is at work when your dreaming and theres no way that you will be able to control this part of your mind at all. It will just bring about a random memory of yours and just like a video it will be played and presto your dreaming ;)

I've been trying to do the same thing but so far it has not happened to me that I could dream about something or someone, even though I concentrated on it before falling asleep. There are some good tips in this thread though, I guess I will keep trying :)

Yes I think everyone is in someway able to manipulate what their dream will be about. When you are lying in bed at night and about to go to sleep sometimes your mind wanders and that can sometimes determine what your dream will be about. There have been many interesting studies done about peoples dreams. I know that when I am having a scary dream..I can sometimes force myself to wake up. Its actually really cool. :)

I don't think you can. If you do, you are never really aware of it. I think, for some dreams, if you have had them lots of times, you can then later influence them.
