Whats the longest you've 'made do' with broken stuff? And did you ever fix it?

I ask as i'm sat typing on a laptop. Which is plugged into my pc monitor since the screen was smashed last year. I had no intention of leaving it this long, I just kinda...made do. Got used to.
There is an expression used when people talk about home repairs.."if it's not done in the first 6 weeks it is NOT gonna get done".
Is that true?
My laptop took a kick in june last year. Nearly been a year now. Its still broke...

It would all depend on what it was that was broken. If it was something minor, I'd probably end up making do for a while. I have a really nice stereo, 3 cd changer, the only thing wrong with it is the front slides open to load to the cd's, one of the 'doors' that slides open has been off the track for a while now, but it still works, I just haven't gotten around to messing with it. If it is something major around the house, I normally get to it quickly, or call in someone to fix it if I don't have the knowledge, I don't mess with electricity lol

Do you think its true that if left a thing is less likely to get fixed? Can you really see yourself 'getting round to it' after this length of time?. I dunno if I can be bothered paying and fixing my laptop screen now. I know I can do without it!!

Yes I do agree with you on that, the longer it is left the less likely it is to be fixed. I used a laptop that my dad gave me, years ago, just like you do. The screen was shot, so I hooked it up to a desktop monitor, it worked fine in every other aspect. It was less expensive then having it fixed, at that time, it was very expensive. And now, I would be more apt to just save up for a new laptop since the prices have come down so much.

Did you approach a service engineer to repair your stuff? Why should you make up the situation with a smashed screen? It would not be a laptop then with a pc monitor in use.I haven't experienced anything like what you have told.If I had to,then I will get repaired mine soon without any delay.i don't believe in making out with worse things.that will raise your bp.

Its still a laptop. its on my lap as i type! But it is also connected to a monitor. I think it has started to seem a frivolous thing to pay for at the moment. Im hoping to move within the next month. I'm loathe to replace it as its still fairly new. Maybe thats why I haven't repaired it. i feel cheated!
