What Would You Do After A Series of Interviews But Without Call Again?

These days I'm busy looking for a job. It seems that I lose confidence after a series of interviews without call again. Soooooo,I'm jobless now. I think there must be something wrong with me. I graduated from Xiamen University majored in English. To be honest, English isn't my strongth, especialy, oral English. I often feel awkward when the interviewer asks what my major is, and I tell them English, then the embarrassed moment comes, because I have to show my poor oral English. It's really bad time, although I passed TEM-8, my communication skill is pretty...:( I'm always lack of a bit smartness in interviews. Maybe it's my problem. Now I'm trying to find out the reasons of failure. On the other hand, I'm a little impatient to look for jobs. Staying at home makes me short-tempered and easily annoyed. If you have the same experience with me, how do you handle that and can you figure out the cause of failure in interviews? Help me plz...

I feel you chiarachang, by the way good evening. That's also how I feel when I was starting to look for a job. What I do after a series of interviews then there is no call yet. I would jump into conclusion that I am not hired for the position. So I keep looking for another one. I dont stop until I got one. If you have problem with your speaking skills. Try to mingle and talk with someone that has the english speaking ability. That one could help you improve your speaking skills. If you want you can enroll to an online tutor.

Practice speaking/reading English out loud from a novel like "The Color Purple"(U can now get books/novels on CD). Or use a digital recorder and playback what you've read to heard any mistakes in punctuation. When going on the next interview tell yourself that "THE EMPLOYER NEEDS ME MORE THAN I NEED THEM" (we both know that its a TWO WAY STREET)is a confidence booster that I learned from a FEW retirees I've met that has worked for me.

I'd say just have patience and keep on looking for job openings in your area. I also experienced the same dilemma a few years ago when I was trying to land myself a job. It was either I was overage (yes, here in my country 28 is considered overage for a girl)or I lacked the basic requirements for education because I was not able to finish college. But the disappointments did not put me down. Instead, it gave me more determination to find myself a job and I was able to find one that paid well. Just have patience .

For me I would advice to be responsible to answer the question in confident way like if they handle you in that work you are capable to it. And no shyness to the interviewer so that they feel you are to be.

That's the way it is. There's too many applicants around. You just need to stand out from them. Do not be discouraged by failed job applications, use this experience to enhance yourself. If english is your problem, the best teacher will be experience you need to practice your english speaking skills through normal conversations. Using the internet will also be good because you get to know other people whom you can talk to in english.

When I was looking for a job, I made it a practice to call them a few days after the interview. If I hadn't heard, it let them know I was still interested. It kept my name in their minds. I know I got one job that way! Good luck, hope you find the job you want soon.

I've recently resigned from my job, and have been a bum for the past month. I've been on and off looking for a job, too. I got called back a few times as well, but in the end, they decided not to take me on. Understandable, since the jobs I am applying for are not exactly related to my profession, so no harm. :) Nevertheless, I try my best not to let those rejections get me down. Some job somewhere is the right job for me. All I need to do is maintain a positive outlook and keep applying. Never lose hope! We'll both find jobs soon enough! :D

I always try to follow up usually after a week when some companies already interviewed me. Its what I learned when I attended a career workshop. Its okay to follow up cause you are also showing them your interest in working in their company. I think its a very good thing for us to show interest about the things in a certain company cause this will help them know that you are really going to work for them.

This happens often in down economies. All you can do is keep the applications coming and scheduling more job interviews. Before you know it, you will be hearing back about several opportunities at once. All you can do is control what you can, and that is applying for more jobs. Best of luck on your search friend.

I have the experienced that before lots of interviews but they dont call me up. When that happens i know i was not qualified and i didnt passed. Then i asked my self what went wrong and think things over what i have done or said. After that i just have to accept that its not really meant for me. Dont give up looking for a job. You'll find one just have confidence in yourself.

I have tried, and failed, repeatedly to find a job and, at my age, it is almost impossible for me to get a job now. It is very discouraging and depressing but you have to stay positive and upbeat all the time. Perhaps you could try to change your appearance, it often gives you a confidence boost when you look and feel good. You could also ask the companies for feedback on why your interview wasn't a success.

you would think that employers would be professional enough to let you know either way. my hubby had 3 interviews with one company but they never let him know that he didnt get the job!

I can relate to you chiara. It's really hard to find a decent job here. The only decent paying job that I could think of here is being a call center agent and that you have to have a strong english communication skills. I've applied to a lot of companies like 10-15 only 6 or 8 called for an interview and got accepted only on one company. If they say they will call you back after the interview you would probably wait long. Practice makes perfect, try to ask a buddy of yours to restrict yourselves and speak english alone.

The way the job market is today, it is a major achievement to make it to an interview instead of having your resume and application tossed in the trash when it first comes to a company's attention. The average employer receives multiple numbers of applications for even the smallest of job opportunities. I think you should encourage yourself that you actually have made it to an interview. The first place I would look is at your resume and how accurate it is to match what the employer is looking for. I am wondering how you would be using your skills in English. While your English skills are not as polished as a person that works with the written word in an English-speaking country as a Secretary, Medical Transcriptionist, Editor, etc., it may still suffice for other applications of English. English is a challenge even if you have grown up speaking the language and writing and reading it. I know what you mean about feeling impatient about the whole job searching process and wanting to feel productive instead of staying at home. Is it possible that you could do something at home to be productive such as study or look for work on the internet in your field or starting your own business. If you are doing all that you can to get your resume out to the various companies every week, I would make myself busy with educating yourself in various areas. I look for places that are doing free lectures on different subjects. I especially like going to lectures by someone in the medical or natural health area or joining a knitting club or cooking class, etc. One of my favorites is to take free computer classes at our local library and attend lectures on various subjects there. I would see if there are any groups that I could join that would relate to your chosen profession. This might be a good way to socialize with others of the same interests and help you to possibly connect with an employer on a more relaxed level in your area of expertise. One of the best ways to pass the time after you have done all that you can do is to find older people that you can learn about life from. When I was in my mid 20s, I had many older friends who gave me really good advice on how they would have lived their lives if they had the chance to do it all over again. Since we are always learning, even when we don't seem to have anything important to do in our eyes, I would purposely expose myself to new ideas or brush up on something that you want to do better. Maybe you could even find some books, DVDs, instruction on how to do a better interview. Soon you can be an expert in the job search area and maybe even be able to help others find a job. I wish you well. Please remember that when you are interviewed, your confidence in yourself and how well you can do a job really jumps out at an employer through body language, etc. Maybe you could practice in a mirror on how you would address an interviewer. These are all suggestions of what you may be able to do until you land the job of your dreams.

Don't lose your confidence, Chiara. Your chance will come. I say this to you because it happened to me too. Some years back, I resigned from a company before finding another job. I had my reasons. Anyway, I thought it shouldn't be hard for me to get a job since I had a degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and also an Advanced Diploma in Information Technology. For the next 3.5 months, I'd been to quite a handful of interviews but didn't receive any follow-up calls from any one of them. Moreover, my wife was going to give birth very soon and you can imagine how frustrated I felt. I still continue sending application letters. Maybe my son brought me luck. On the 2nd day after his birth, I finally got a call for a 2nd interview, and from there on, everything's history. Don't give up, and don't give in. Wish you luck!
