HI, i currently got a job as a Korean tutor. I teach a 14 year old Korean girl on how to speak English. She know a little bit of English but has hard time expressing it. I don't really have enough experience in this area and I really want to learn and be a better tutor. Do you have any tips for me? Any do's and dont's?

hi! I don't have any experience of having a Korean or other nationalities as a student. I'm a teacher but not in English. I'll try to tell you some tips but I'm not sure if it is effective. First is to have more patience on this matter. Second, try to read a story/ a novel that suits for a teen or do something together and translate it for her to understand and make or add a new vocabulary everyday for her to understand more. Third, try to find out what's her interest in doing or do some activities together. And from there, use her interest to teach her English. To teach better is to communicate well and understand your student. To communicate well, you should learn some of her language too. Hope these help. Good luck and have a nice day!

I will just add up to what she said... When you're a tutor, never become negative or else the child would be discouraged. Also, let her think of you as a friend, not as a tutor. In that way, she would not have a hard time on expressing her views. Good luck on your job!!

Thank you so much for your suggestions. It really helps a lot. Now, I am slowly applying the things that you are saying. I am more as a friend to her than a tutor. We have fun, laugh and tell jokes at each other while having the lessons. I really hope that she would really learn a lot from me.
