Just before christmas i had my oldest cat ran over outside the front of my house.Today i had one of my youngest cats hit by a car on a main road at the back of my house. The car driver was a young lad who hit my cat today and he said that a lady in a house behind ours said it was our cat so the lad aftetr knocking on a few houses knocked on my door and told my husband as i was not at home.As soon as i heard my cat had been hit i went home and there the cat was shaken but ok.He is ok now all bar his claws which are all scraped down.I am pleased to think that someone was kind enough to tell me they had hit my cat even though he had ran off after the car had hit him.

The young lad was shaken up as he also has cats. When i got the call from my husband i thought the worst,i thought he had been hit and killed.I got him to come in and then left him quiet for a while as not only the car owner was in shock but so was the cat.I saw his claws were badly scruffed up,so i knew for sure that it was my cat that had been hit by a car and noone elses. The vet said it is hard to keep a cat that likes the out doors in all the time,so he has gone out the cat flap again, but he is in the garden at the moment.

Hi jugsjugs, I am very pleased to hear that your cat is okay as I'm a great animal lover. It's also good to know that the young man took the time to find the owner. Sort of restores faith in human nature doesn't it? There are still good people in the world. Blessings.

It sounds like his mom did a good job raising him, for him to be so caring and all.

I think for a young lad to take the time to find us being the owners is great. He had seen what way the cat had ran so he knocked on the door of the house whos path it went up and they were not in so the lady next deoor came out and he looked in her garden and he told her what the cat was like and she pointed him to my house. My husband said the lad was shook up badly,he said he also had cats.

I think for my cat to be on the road he was on then something must have really scared him as that is not his usual path for going in that direction.I have all of my windows open upstairs aswell as downstairs so he lets himself in and out all the time.It is a worry, but he is used to the out door life and he would hate being made to stay in all the time.

Sorry to hear about your cat. I did not like cats before but they have a way of getting to you, right? We have several cats who settled at our house. But there is one who refuses to leave the perimeters of out house. Getting hit by a car is never going to happen to him.

My cat has only got scuffed claws where the vet said that is due to a cat auto matically opening the claw for grip.I am pleased to think thqt someone took the time to find the owner as in me to let me know rather than just driving off and not caring if the cat was laying hurt anywhere. The vet also said that you can not stop a cat from going out easily and he is sure that the cat will be a bit more on the guard now since the car hit it.

Yes, this was a good thing for the boy to do.
Ones I know I can not say they would be so nice.
It is hard to see a pet hurt are lost, but not
to know what happen to them is even worst. I have
one that has been gone a few years and it still
bothers me.

Oh that's horrible. I am very sorry about that but I hope that your cat is okay now. It's horrible when something like that happens to a pet that you love. Well good thing that it wasn't worse this time.

I'm so glad he is alright! I think I would keep my cats inside from now on, if that's possible.
What a wonderful young man, too! You would not find that here, I'm afraid. Animals are not considered worth stopping for, most people hit them and speed off, don't even check to see if they are okay.

Personally, if I were you I would make them inside cats and NEVER let them out again!!! Losing one cat because it got out and got hurt cured me to letting my cats out. I think that is the best advice I can give you also. I only have one cat left. You can't help it if they sneak out, try to get them back in as fast as you can. I bribe them in with wet cat food. But I made my last cat a strictly indoor cat. MY other two cats were killed by wild animals that live around my house when they got out. One came home after getting attacked by a badger. She didn't make it. I am still not over that loss. Cherish your cats. They give you unconditional love in return. Make them indoor cats you will be happier for it, trust me, I am.

First off, I am very happy to hear that your cat made it through his ordeal. I think what the young man did was definitely the right thing. If I was to ever accidentally hit an animal, I would try to do the same thing that the young man did. I am very much an animal lover and I know that animals truly are a part of your family, so I know that is what you should do. I hope that your husband thanked the young man for letting you all know what had happened.

I think the guy who had hit your cat is an animal lover too so dared to knock on your doorstep to give you the cat and admit the incident. I hope your cat is doing fine now.

On the other side of the coin, I was driving home late one night and I got hit by a cat! Scared the daylights out of me as he fell out of an oak tree onto the hood of my station wagon. There is something unnerving to be eye to eye with a big black cat! The cat hung on to the ridge of my car and was smart enough to stay there until I pulled over to the side of the road. He then jumped off and ran like crazy across the fields. Obviously he wasn't hurt. I can't say the same for my nerves!!! I did see him later, fortunately he was on the ground in the fields doing his hunting.

And you don't leave them inside to keep them from being killed why?

Thank godness your cat is somehow safe and alive. In our place when cats are hit by cars most of the time they die and splatter all over the road.I have had 2 cats dying just like that so i know the feeling and know if your cat is suffering any injuries too might as well take him/her to the vet for a checkup just to be sure. ;)
