I just sold my car. How did you feel when you parted with your first car?

I sold my car today.
Nothing unusual in that, after all people sell their cars every day, but this was the first car I had ever owned. I feel very sentimental about that car, I loved it so much and lavished a lot of time, energy and money on it, and now it's leaving.
That little car has taken me on holidays, to and from work, to the shops, to visit friends and family, it's been on a couple of emergency dashes and has been a part of my life for so long that it feels almost like I have lost my best friend.
So tell me, how did you feel when you got your first car? and how did you feel when you got rid of your first car?

Firstly congrats on selling your car my dear friend, did that timewaster buy it in the end, I hope not cos he didn't deserve it for mucking you around, after all it has to be someone special to buy it, after how it's served you all this time! My first car was a mini, I am 6 foot 2 but it was comfortable and I loved it, even named it Rosie as it was red. Although it wasn't a good car to have for my first car, it was difficult to steer and I had a few prangs with it, I was actually quite glad to get rid of her in the end, it actually put me off driving, do you know it was 12 years since I got another car after getting rid of my first one. Oh and if this response doesn't register I will scream the amount of times I respond to discussions on Mylot lately only for them to come up with an error message, so fingers crossed....

I've heard of christening boats, but cars? What happens when a car door gets hit with a bottle of Asti Spumante'?

You will probably feel that way about every car you ever own, not just your first car. I have always felt like I was saying goodbye to an old friend everytime I sold or traded a car. You don't realize the memories you associate with your vehicle until they are flashing through your mind when it's gone. Getting a new car to make new memories with helps :)

Talk about a hunk of metal. My last car was totaled by a hit and run drunk driver. It was nothing but a hunk of metal by the time he was done with it. Then reported it stolen so his insurance wouldn't cover it. I haven't yet replaced it :(

my first car was a ute. holden wb think it was a 1983 model, with a v8 enigine. mum and dad bought her in may 2000 for my bro and i. i had her for nearly 2 yrs and only gave her up cause i had my son. she did some embrassing things in that time, but i still loved her. my bro had her for a few yrs and then i got her back when, i wrecked an engine on another ute. more fun with her, but she never missed a beat. it was only the change in fuel that caused her to die, needed the heads done. then we sold her.
i'm now at the stage of doing something about my 2nd car, it's worth nothing but we're not sure what to do with it trade it in or sell it off as parts????
but i'm happy today cause i finally got the ute i want.

Yes, I did feel a bit sad to get rid of my first car. I would have kept it a bit longer as it was still running ok but I was lucky enough to win a brand new one. When I said i was sad to see it go, the man buying it said he would be more than happy to take the new one instead. I kept the 'new' one for about 14years until the repairs were costing more than the value of the car & I exchanged it for a used one that was about 3 years old. I've only ever had 3 cars.

For my first car, that little red wreck has been a very loyal and reliable friend. We have another car but it just doesn't have the personality.

My first car was a beat up old Fiat that I bought fourth or fifth hand. It was all I could afford, but, it was my first car. I spent a lot of time and effort fixing it up so that it was (more or less) reliable. Made a lot of long distance trips in it, brought my wife and new baby home from hospital in it. It had a lot of memories attached with it. Believe it or not, it had a personality of its own.
Long after it was no longer serviceable, and I had other cars, I refused to part with it. I finally had to because we were relocating, and there was no way my wife was going to agree to pay haulage for the "wreck", as she called it! So, with tears in my eyes, I had it to let it go. I sold it to a scrap dealer because I could not bear the thought of anyone else using it, it was better to let it "die".
Sounds crazy, doesn't it? But that's the way I felt about that car!

Well we sold our first car as a husband and wife with a smile. It was because we needed the money to start a small buy and sell business. My husband still in this business of him and thanks to our very first car because it just opened the door for another source of income for our family

Ah, my first car. It was a buick and I sold it to my girlfriend for very cheap. I missed it for it had been a great car. I did some relatively cheap upkeep on it like changing the cables and new tires and it worked fine for me for several years. Never had any major problems with it.

my first car was a station wagon. it was blue. One day when i was at work my sister slapped an "AAA" sticker on the bumper making it look even more like and "old farts" car. I was so happy to trade it in.

It is really a sad feeling to sell my first car. I bought it when I was in good financial position. After loosing the job during recession period I had to sell my car. I was depressed a lot and now I bought a new car of the same type. May be I will get a situation where I have to sell this car also. I won't bother next time to sell this. I am well prepared for that.
