Hi,
Well, there are words that bear the same meaning but are used in different contexts. This depends on the strength. The difference is in mere usage. It is found that the word 'Restrict', which is used as a verb has use in stronger senses than that of the word 'Limit'. The word 'Arrest' is also used in same senses. For example, 'One whose growth is arrested..'. Anyway, the usage I was talking about can only be learned through extensive study of literature, especially the contemporary literature. You can say 'Restricted Area' but you can not use 'Limited Area' in the same sense. Restricted is stronger, as if it has an atmosphere of prevention or hindrance around it. But limit is rather weak in its expression.
Take care
God bless you

hmmmm. Okay. Restricted is if there is something available to you, but you are unable to obtain that something because of placed impediments. For example: there is water in the watertower in the middle of a town. Trying to open that watertower to get water is restricted because the police put up a gate. NO one can get to it.
Limit is when only a certain amount is available to you. unlike being restricted, you are not COMPLETELY unable to obtain it. For example: that watertower in the middle of town has water in it. The town is going through a drought. The police then limit the amount of water each person is allowed to get from that watertower. the police are like a semi-barrier. you see?
hope this helps. just my two cents.
