You must not drink water after a meal, you cannot drink water before a meal?

I first read discussions saying you will get cancer if you drink ice water after a meal, now someone else says you should not drink water an hour before a meal, I suppose next someone will make a discussion you cannot drink water with your meal, it will cause gout or some other thing. where do these people get their information? Do you just believe a statement like that because someone says you should not do this? how about if it makes common sense or not? your opinions please. Ipersonally drink water before after and during a meal t o get my 8 to 10 glasses in a day as my doctor has admonished me to do so. Also if my blood sugar is too high I drink water to bring it down to normal.

yes people are always coming up with something else. its rediculus. its just like all my life people have not drank tons of water a day, but my son is doing it to loose weight. plus yesterday he said its healthy if you have at least 3 bowel movements a day how crazy. ive always heard one a day is the norm. geesh, the stuff people come up with off the internet. and news. my grandma was 88 when she passed and thats cause she got hodgkins. but i dont recall her ever drinking much water. a lot of coffee maybe. i think she'd thought she had diarea if she'd had 3 bowel movements a day..cause i believe she always said you should have 1. ..lol..

hi bunnybon yes its always something that does not even make' sense. oh dear if I had three in one day I wou ld also think I had diarrhea too. what people will try to make us believe but I am truly skeptical about foods and water, I want to know the truth. I am 83 and drink water anytime i need it as I must get in my 8 to 10 glasses a day to prevent horrid leg cramps at night specially if I do not have any bananas to eat.

I heard that misleading info too many times. But what about taking soups with meals, isn't that considered water too? I must drink water after each meal and every morning before I take my breakfast I drink a glass of water. I am still who I am today with all the water that I have taken during and after meals. In our hot climate, ice water is necessary. I seldom drink room temperature water. No reason why ice water is not allowed.

I don't know where they get the Information from, but water clears the system so the Cancer thing is rubbish I have heard about not drinking water before a meal, the reason for that is that water fills you up, which means you will not be able to eat all of the meal, People drink the Water in between Meals when they are hungry and trying to diet But I have never heard of the rubbish about Water after a meal causes Cancer if anything it will flush out the Body Hugs

hi gabs and bunny I love to drink water with a hint of lemon or lime in it. myfavorite restaurant used to do that then for some reason they quit. I always loved that too. I love to drink water before my meals as it does help me cut back on the carbs so I can start' to lose weight gradually. my doctor says no more than six pounds a month, thats sounds too little but he says this way it will stay off, and that sounds good to me.

I drink lots of water at least 4 liters which must be three quarters of a gallon of water daily. apart from living in the tropics I also drink to flush the fat out of me. I have lost 16 lbs by cutting down and exercising and drinking lots of water. Dr. recommended my doing so.You are doing great so keep drinking the water. Oh I drink the water any old time too!

The problem is the "ice water." We should never drink ice water, just drink it at room temperature. Ice water will cause many problems. I still believe that we should drink room temperature water one half hour before eating and two and a half hours after eating for the best digestion.

Congratulations, my friend Preventive measures is a hundred times better than medication after you are already sick. As for me, the pharmacies would be in bankrupt a long time ago.. Synthetic vitamins would be like eating apples made of plastic. Our body refuses to use them and just tries to get rid of them as soon as possible. So better see how our Creator has planned our nutrition and follow the nature´s blueprint..

hi sorry but dieticians and medical people have thoroughly debunked that myth. ice water is warmed by the time it reaches your'tummy and does not congel fat, they made special tests to confirm their results. ice water does not cause cancer, ikt does not congeal fat as its not icy when it gets into the stomach this has been proven to be a false statement by lay people who have no idea how the digeston in their own body works.

I'll believe doctors and dietitians the day I see that the hospitals are empty. The stomach is very close to the mouth and there is no way that the ice water will be warm by the time it hits the stomach. I'm doing just fine following common sense and trial and error. I like to be my own guinea pig. As long as my health keeps improving I'll stick with common sense and preventive measures. As long as keep looking and have the energy of a much younger person I'll stick with what works. Five years of not needing one single pill or tablet or artificial vitamin. I must be doing something right!

I can almost guarantee you that there is no truth to these discussions. People have been drinking water before, during, and after meals since the beginning of the history of people. There was a time when water was all we really had to drink. I drink water all the time, and I usually drink water with meals. I have been doing this for years, and I have not had any negative effects from it...

hijdyrj777 yes indeed moderation is the thing to keep us healthy'in all ways, we should not drink a gallon of water in a day or ten poundsof food at one sitting as then we will be sick. but in moderate amounts water and food we have used common sense and we will be healthy too.

I guess I am in the best of shape then as I rarely ever drink water I like my water filled with the taste of coffee and I drink enough coffee during the course of a day to make just about any medical person shudder. But I have lived this long with it I suppose I'll live even longer with it just to make people scratch their heads in disbelief People are always saying things are bad for you. Who the heck cares? We all gotta go sooner or later, may as well go out happy

Yes!! Its quiet true.. We must not drink water before taking a meal.. Taking water in between eating the meal or after it is also may prove to be harmful.. It is a summer time over here and I take a lots of water. I prefer taking water 30 minutes before or after a meal. It is just a habit now.

Hi Hatley, Personally I drink water before each meal,in the middle and after meal,I guess I drink more water than having a solid food,I make sure to have 8 glasses of water the whole day, in the morning I really have to drink water with my empty stomach,to help me waste out toxin from the body before in taking any food, before each meal I used to have a glass of water to make the feeling of fullness preventing me to have a huge meal/lol,for diet purpose..And, so I believe water is good for the body it gives me a lot of benefits for my diet program.. Happy myLotting..Have a nice day!!

I think it doesn't matter if you drink before or after meal as long your in healthy condition and drink water in moderate amount. I drink 2 liter of water a day. My best friend give a tip to get slim is not drinking a water after meal. After half to one hour you can drink water, it seem work to her.

nangisha according to my own doctor you may and should drink water any time you feel the least thirsty. you must get in your 8 to 10 glasses a day to have optimum health. Water is good for you at any 'time of day or night, statements to the otherwise are false according to snopes. You do not get slim by cutting down on water, you get slim by eating less and exercising more. the quick loss you may see if you cut back on water is elusive because the moment you drink anything or eat anything the weight is right back where it was as the body replenishes your water content with the foods and beverages you eat.

I drink water whenever I want to, whenever my body calls for it. I don't really pay attention to what people say because they're entitled to their opinions and I'm entitled to whether I take it or not. Unfortunately at this time and age, everything causes you cancer. So I say, "Everything in moderation. Everything in moderation." Enjoy your life. Eat, laugh, smile and drink as much as you want to. We all have to say good-bye sometimes. Some people live with more care, and others live with doing whatever makes them happy. How you want to live, is up to you.

Hi, Hatley I think it is ok to drink water a while before meals, but it could be good to avoid drinking during the meals. An important part of the digestion should be done in the mouth while we chew the food. If we chew long enough, the saliva can do what it is meant to do, start the digestion. After the meal, we can let the liquids in the stomach do the work without disturbing the ptocess with water. Many vegetables have a lot of water, so we need not be too thirsty if we eat them.. I think the recommendation is to wait a couple of hours after a meal to drink water..

You are right, my friend. We should listen to our body.. Most times I don´t wait two hours after the meal to drink water but until I´m thirsty - Sometimes we have to break the rules if we feel it´s right..

From all that I have read I agree with your recommendations. Of course, if we eat a lot of salty foods we will be thirsty and I think that if one is thirty they should drink as the body is telling them something.

I have heard the "drinking icewater after a meal creates oily sludge" thing two or three times. Basically it is a fallacy. Your body warms the water as it goes down you digestive pipe. It does not cause an oily sludge. Yes, you can drink too much water, but the average person will not do so. You have not lived this long by following quackery. I would follow your example if I wanted to be healthy. And I raise a glass of water in a toast to you my friend.

If I do no make myself drink when the weather is cooler I find I get these really painful leg cramps in the middle of the night and especially if I have had some salty food of some sort too.My doctor says most of us will not ever get water poisoning as that comes from way way too much water. but we will get dehydrated as we most often just do not drink enough water.

oh, yeah and cold water will make the fat in your food congeal and kill ya - right... they can have my drinks when I'm congealed... Now, the roomie has gastric bypass and she's not supposed to drink before, during and after (30 min before and an hour after) because it'll push the food thru too fast, but THAT is an entirely different thing meanwhile, if they want to sacrifice themselves to some internet hoax - well, its up to them ain't it?

Hi Hatley That must not be right but I understand that drinking water along with meals or immediately after meals is not good as the water dilutes the acid naturally released in the stomach for digestion and water reduces the digestion and harms the digestion process in the long run - so it is said that water should never be taken in large quantities along with food- they say 30- 40 minutes after the last morsel gone in safest as food needs about 25 minutes to be digested and broken down completely. Similarly it is said that water should be taken at least 40 minutes before meals - thus helps lubrication and also keeps the person from eating too much - sort of a control- helps control of weight too. And it is also said that drinking about 8 liters of water in a day is good for the body as the toxins are flushed out and keep the body fluids in order. Regarding ice water it is said that is not good for the health - the best is water at room temperature as cold water reacts with the body temperature inside and creates an imbalance.

hji udayrao2 and all that you have said has also been proven wrong buy both medical experts and snopes too, these are urban legends passed on y uninformed lay people who have no medical expertise at all. You can and should drink water at any time of day or night until you get your 9 to 10 glasses of water in to keep you hydrated.Ice water had been definitely proved to not be injurious to your health at all, and many of us are living proof ofthis statement as we are aged and still healthy, and we drank all the ice water we wanted when we needed it.A lot of stuff is said that has been proved absolutely untrue. I want proof and the truth not just stuff that someone has said.as for the hooey about cold water creating an imbalance, the nutritionists say the minute cold water hits the throat it is immediately warmed to the internal body temperature so it does not do anything bad, such a bunch of myths that people keep passing on.

I mentioned that one should drink a lot of water( never wrote that you should not drink lots of water) about 10-12 glasses at a minimum - as it is needed and also good for the body - but I have had problems of digestion personally if I drink lots of water along with meals, maybe a glass during the whole meal is Ok but not more - so I normally drink a lot more either half an hour before or after meals. And regarding iced water maybe it is ok where you live but here due to the hot climate many people have had health complaints drinking iced water on a long term basis& had to switch to room temperature, including me. And then if you really read the science & medical reports /magazines you will find that almost on each and every topic there are contrary reports- so whom do you believe? Trust me, I have studied and have graduated & as well as done research in micro-biology so I know .

the proof is on the side of water as the most beneficial liquid one can take anytime -- before, after, and during meals. but it should be clean and fit for drinking. also, it should not be cold and freezing, as cold water can prevent some broken down food into catalyzing. ask the japanese, even the chinese, and they will tell you that warm water is better before, during and after meals.

bystander I have talked to a lot of health officials and to scientists who say contrary to that well said thing about ice water, ice water does not prevent broken down food from doing anything, the body is smart ,it immediately warms cold water to internal temperature before it ever hits the stomach, this has been proven and these people all state that so all these various nationalities really are not scientists and they do not at all understand the workings of our bodies like scientists who have studied this and done all sorts of lab tests on it. so I drink ice water and have no problems at all. it does not do anything to the food as its warmed by the time it reaches the digested food. so if they want to believe a fallacy that is up to them.

hibystander always I am learning and willing to pass it on too. this has been proven quite a while back by a lot of nutritionists who had heard that same urban myth and decided to prove what they believed to be true and it was true, the temp of water when it hits the stomach has been warmed so its the same temp as the stomach andits contents.
