I live in a country where credit card is a luxury. For what I know and what I believe and what i think. Before when i don't have a card, I love doing grocery shopping with my mom using cash. I love getting food in my basket. The ingredients for pasta, cereals, milk, bread, peanut butter and yogurt. I'm sorry I'm not so much a fan of carbonated drinks. I loving retail shopping as well using cash. I have a lot of shoes, bags, accessories and make-up( I guess by now you know my gender). But here's my thing, would you rather use a credit card or cash and vise-versa when you know you have access to both? Would you rather use cash or a credit card when doing food shopping, when you know by the end of the day or week it's gone because you've eaten it. Or how about use your credit card or cash when doing retail shopping because you know it'll last and you still can see what you are paying for? I guess I'm asking what should be done about now that I have a card but i know I have cash to pay for it. Before I really want one, but now I had one I don't know what to do about it specially at the end of the day I still need to pay it cash. Would I just rather get rid of it?

I don't really like using credit card, i would rather choose debit card or prepaid card instead...The risk about credit card is that you must know your every transactions and then make sure to pay them later on..That's uncomfortable to me..

I don't have a credit card. But even if I did, I would prefer payment by cash. I'm used to it..and I don't like taking credit. With cash, I know exactly how much I have and can buy. But with credit, unless one is very diligent about keeping track of how much one is spending, one tends to go overboard. I might not...but it's too much of a headache for me to check my balance and if I have overdrawn it...or try to stick to my limits by keeping track of my spending each time. It's more practical for me to use cash whenever I can...and use the card only when necessary..for an item I really really need to get and I might not have cash at the moment or I'm travelling and the credit card is then easier to use.

like what I've said I'm new on these credit cards and these things are very tempting to use when i have it handy. especially when i see some things that i wanna buy knowing that i could have those with a simple swipe on my card. i think the good thing about it though is i'm always on track on my card's balance that' the reason i haven't gone overdrawn yet. ( and hopefully will not) what i do is i just leave it at home so i won't be able to buy things unnecessary (but what happens is i usually go back to the store the next morning with my card... oh geez) ;p

Hi, sofabnnn. I would rather just use cash instead. Every time that I spend money from my debit card, the bank charges me $1.00 just for using my card and making a purchase. These dollars add up sooner or later so I will just use cash for the remainder of my orders.

That Charge of $1.00 per transaction is not so good. That's also my concern on using my credit card because of the finance charges every month that applies into it. That's the reason I'd always look for things that has zero percent interest for me to take advantage of the installment plans that applies to it.

If I am going shopping, I am using my card since carrying cash could be a problem sometimes but I make it a point not to go over my budget since it will be my problem if I will spend so much but I still keep a small amount of money with me since some establishments will not accept credit card. Credit card can be an advantage if we can use it wisely but if you do not know how to use it properly, better have cash then. I know so many people whose debt in credit card is more than what they can pay and it really gives them huge headache on how to pay for their bills

Thanks for the advise. So right now, I think what I really have to learn is to be disciplined enough on buying things and setting my budget limit whenever I plan to shop. I don't wanna have those huge headaches most credit cardholders usually suffers. ;)

I would prefer to use cash for any transactions, be it buying groceries, clothing, books, etc. I will use my credit card only when I want to earn some points from my credit cards which can be used to offset my bills, even if I have cash with me. Credit cards can be useful, however, its use should not be abused. If I don't have enough cash to buy something, I won't resort to using credit cards. That's my principle. I'll wait until I have the cash, then I will make the purchase.

your advice is really helpful. i haven't got the chance to take advantage of the points that i can get using my cards. i will keep track on that. i can say that i haven't abused using my cards yet( and hopefully i won't get to that point ? so bottom line here i think is i need to be very keen and responsible enough on using these things. whew. responsibilities...

I don't really use my credit cards anymore, because I got into a bunch of debt on them. I haven't closed them though.
I do prefer to use cash because it is easier to keep track of.

There advantages and disadvantages in using a cash and credit card.Let me start discussing first with the use of cash. When you use cash especially in a grocery store, you don't earn points unless you have the card of the store that you can use to generate points.Secondly,it is risky to bring cash nowadays, because there are many criminals that roaming around due to economic crisis.on the other hand, if you have credit card on hand, you get to manage your finances.you can use the money that your holding for other things or you can keep it for emergency purposes.another benefit that you get when you have credit card is that you get to earn points in every transactions that you make.and you can save those points and you can convert it for a gift certificate or to pay off your balances in the card, depending upon as well on the features of the card that is being offered regarding points.on the contrary, credit card will not be beneficial to us if we are not going to use to it correctly.what i am trying to say is,if we are not going to pay off our balances on or before the due date,it will lead our account to become delinquent.so let's be careful.let's be wise.
If i were to choose, i will go with the use of credit card.with the current situation of our life today,it is really hard to manage our finances.we just to be wise and intelligent for us not to suffer in the end.happy mylotting

That's really a personal preference. No one else can tell you what to do because it's whatever you're most comfortable doing. I'll give you an example.
My husband and I hate carrying cash. It seems like whenever I carry cash I end up losing bits of it because I'm very forgetful and I drop things easily without realizing it. I've never had a problem using my card, though, and I pay careful attention to how much money I'm spending even with a debit card, but I also don't have to worry about having enough money on-hand for the things that I need when I go because when I shop it's usually on the fly and not that I actually planned on going shopping.
My grandmother, however, likes to stick to her budget and physically having money helps her do that, so when she goes shopping she takes money with her instead of using her cards. If she's not holding enough money to pay for all of her groceries, she puts some things back and does without until next shopping trip because it's easier for her to keep track that way.
So, really, it comes down to whatever's easier for you. The only thing you have to really be careful with with a card is that you don't overspend because it's really easy to spend more than you thought you did.

Okay... This response would push me to a lot of thinking now, What would be more convenient and wise for me. You grandmother putting back the things that exceeds her budget would also be a nice style... Now that I think about it I could still budget my money when using a credit by just setting on up to how much I should spend on a certain shopping. Oh well, easy to say but very hard to do.

you shouldn't have got one. from what i'm hearing, credit cards are just another way for you to be spending money unconsciously. pay with cash everytime and just leave the credit at home.

Thanks for the advise. I found it very useful though specially for certain things I like to buy that I can't afford the whole amount in cash so I'd rather have it in installment using a credit card. There's a lot of temptations, I can't deny it but I just need to be aware of my limitations I suppose.

If you just pay attention to it, using cash is much more practical than using a credit card specially if you have access to your cash too. While usin credit cards is easier but the thing is you pay an extra sum of money for the interest being charged with those cards. Why pay more for you just pay what it is due at the counter? Im talking about rendering cash instea. If the counter said you have to pay 100 then you pay that amount only. But if you preffer paying more for convenience then its still your choice. Its just nowadays being practical is much more preffered then wasting money .

I agree with that. I prefer to be practical. I just made a rule to myself if I can pay it with cash, then I will. I'm going to use my cards if they have installment plan where there is 0 finance charges. Usually thy are big items like appliances, furniture and my shoes. I really like my shoes to be that brand. And not to use credit card with food and grocery shopping!
