What does Easter mean to you?

Easter starts tomorrow here in my part of the world and it is a four day weekend which also is the start of a two week break for the schools.
In Australia, I see Easter as being a time to go away camping with the family, have family barbecues, spend one last weekend at the beach before winter comes, or just to spend some time catching up on those odd jobs around the home that never seem to get done.
The religious meaning of Easter has been lost over time here and is not promoted as heavily as chocolate and holidays.
What does Easter represent mostly to you or in your part of the world in general?
What are your plans this Easter?

It had always been a religeous holiday for me even tho i don't go to church like i should. My sister was killed a long time ago around easter so it has also been a sad time for me. When we were kids we'd always get a new outfit & always went to church on easter & usually go out to eat after church. It is a great time to be w/family but of course anytime i'm w/my kids & grandkids is a great time for me.I did offer to cook lunch sun. but my son didn't seem interested.. Hope u have a nice day.

Sorry to hear about your sister and that it is a sad time of year for you.
It is a great time to be with family, but my family are all interstate. Sorry to hear that your son is not interested in spending the day with you on Sunday. I hope that you have others to spend some quality time with on the day.
I am thinking of going for a drive out into the country and having a picnic by a waterfall or something with my wife and kids. I just hope the weather clears in time.

We talk about the religious meaning of Easter to our daughter because at eight she is doing religious education and likes to recognise Easter the way she has been taught. For us it is more about a nice four day break and time with the family. There are those Easter eggs and chocolates of course but lately we have been focussing on the kids only and they still love their egg hunts!

We had a little egg hunt in the morning for our daughter and went to my parents' for lunch. Ate so much I needed to nap and fell asleep on their couch for two hours ...I looked up Baha'i faith, it is very interesting, what made you decide to practice this religion? I like its principles.

We do not practice Baha'i, but it is an alternative that is offered at the kids school. They have to learn religion which is Christian by default, but parents can choose to opt out of that class and have their children go to a Baha'i class instead at the same time as the rest of the class is learning Christian religion. We chose to have our kids learn this as we wanted them to learn a more broader form of religious learning. Not just one school of thought.

It is great to have a four day break. Is it the start of school holidays over there as well?
Our kids learn Baha'i at school instead of the normal Christian religious education. I am not sure if they are taught much about the true meaning of Easter in that or not, but they are aware of it's origins.
We spent Easter Sunday with an awesome bushwalk to a spectacular swimming hole at the base of a waterfall in a gorge. It was really an amazing spot! We had a great day. What did you get up to?

Easter does not mean anything to me since i do not follow the Christian religion. but i do know that it was on this day that Lord Jesus rose from his grave and showed his pure spiritual body to his followers. In my part of the world where Hindus are in a majority we do not celebrate Easter and it is not a holiday either. Here tomorrow ,ie Good Friday is a holiday and since Easter falls on a Saturday which is anyway a holiday for most people, they will definitely enjoy themselves. Personally i don`t have any plans for Easter since i am a Hindu.

That is good to know that you do not celebrate it just because most of the western world do. Many cultures today are losing their traditions and becoming "Westernised", which is sad.
Australia is very diverse in it's religion, but is mainly Christian so we observe Easter traditions. I am not religious though as I was not brought up this way. I do however like the Hindu religion and the Hare Krishna faith. I have been to a few of their celebrations here. I find it much more peaceful and relaxing than the Christian religions.
One of these days I will get around to reading the Bhagavad Gita in full. I have read pieces of it, but not gone through it all yet.

In my area, the religious meaning of Easter is still highly promoted. Unfortunately, I'm going to still have to work this weekend. I will be off on Sunday..thank goodness..but I will had work today and will have to work tomorrow too. I can't wait to get a few days off when the company slows down a little.

At least you have work. There are many who would love to be working.
I would not like to be working when everyone else is enjoying themselves on this long weekend though.

Hi Rawbill,
Easter means new life to me. A gift and a reason to celebrate new life. A reason to be thankful that i am so blessed that God chose me to be saved. Happy Easter in advance!
