Kitten surprise

I came home on Sunday with two kittens. It would have been three, but Ollie got adopted right before I left. So I have a little gray girl named Jasmine and a little black kitten named Ginger. Jasmine had pretty much glommed on to me at the adoption center and I couldn't quite bring myself to leave her. Ginger warmed up to the kids right away, Jasmine not so much. But Saturday it's back to the adoption center where somebody is coming in to see Jasmine. :-( Ah well, as long as the person looks normal (we have a no adopting out to insane people policy), I guess I will live. Can't adopt them all, right? Actually Ginger, being black, may have a harder time getting adopted. We might get "stuck" with her. Aw shucks. On the other hand, if they get adopted I might actually get some sleep at night. They sure are cute, but they sure are nocturnal too. lol Lots of the people at the adoption center prefer to foster adult cats because kittens are just a little too rambunctious and destructive. I can put up with that. lol If you were adopting a cat, which would you go for?

My last cat was black and people here say that having a black cat as an indoor cat keep the malicious spirits away. I like black cats too so as long as Ginger took to me too, then my choice would be her. It's a shame that I am not a wee bit nearer or she might already have a new home

And why would anyone name a black cat Ginger?

I'm guessing it's the color of her eyes.

I don't hate cats but I'm much more of a dog lover. My girlfriend loves cats and if she was the one to choose I think she would choose Jasmine over Ginger. My girlfriend scares herself easily so having a black cat is a big no no for her, I think, I'm not sure though If I would be the one choosing I think I will choose Ginger, I love the mystery that surrounds a black cat. We had a black kitten once and he was so brave that he fights with rodents twice his size....When I think of the cats we once had taken care of, I feel sad because I don't what had happened to them after my father had sent them away. Until now I'm worried about them, thinking if they ever see me again would they recognize me as the boy who had love them once and took care of them

Hii there Its good you have adopted kitten. For myself color isnt a problem.I dont have problem adopting any color of kitten.I know some people refuse to take black color kitten as they think black color is not good. Personally i see how much playful and healthy kitten is and if that kitten likes me in first meeting. You know these animal do have their choice as well.

Three weeks ago we adopted a kitten. The reason that we chose to adopt a kitten is because of the fact that Tom really likes the behavior of kittens and has a lot of fun with them while they are small. That said, I will admit that they can be a little wild at times as kittens, but I also wouldn't trade Peaches 'n Cream for the world, I loved her at the Humane Society and as each day passes that she has been a part of our family, I love her more.

Kittens are loads of fun, but they are also little destruction machines! :D

I would keep them both. Hence, it is not a good idea for me to be around other animals that may need rescuing. I couldn't get rid of any of my Baby's kittens and thank goodness she only had 4. As far as being destructive, they still are. Broke a porcelain doll I had, broke an antique ashtray, almost broke my favorite lamp EVER. I try to keep everything out of the reach of their paws, but you can't always do that. They are 2 yrs 9 mos and still get into trouble, but not near as much as they did when they were kittens. Those little brats would take my jewelry to play with! When I moved from that place, I still couldn't find some items. But I love them, and it seems they tolerate me ok. lol. Why would a black cat not get adopted? A cat is a cat. I have 3 black ones and they are adorable.

We get a lot of black cats. Seems like when you get a lot of cats that look similar, only the most friendly ones get adopted and the rest are there for a very long time. this one is a sweetie though, so her chances are good.

To be honest Dawn I don't know I would take either to be honest I would prefer a Kitten but in my eyes when it comes to adopting I always think that Kitten and Puppies will always get a Home it is the older ones that have the Problem of being adopted

You are right. And I would adopt an older one if I fell in love with it. It just so happened it was this kitten that got my attention....

IF I was about to adopt a cat, it would probably be a deep marmalade, a little beyond a baby kitten. However, IF I ever have another pet it will most likely be a dog. I'd dearly like to have a smallish indoors dog, but what to do with him when we are away is the problem. When I get too old to travel . . .

Not all small dogs are yappy. Some are really sensible and don't yap much at all. The main qualification would be to be a faithful friend and good company.

I love orange kitties, but I'd rather adopt one that I've bonded with and heck with the color. I've never been much for small dogs though, too yappy for me. (Don't tell Gaby)

I would prefer a kitten because you can teach them what do you approve and which things do you not. I am not a cat person as I prefer dogs. But I do admire you for taking care of these two kittens until they get adopted. I am against abandoning animals as stray dogs and cats are doomed for a miserable life. The can be ran over by cars or lack food and decent medical care. I think abandoning animals is a very irresponsible act.

It's funny how different they can be from one another!I adopted my latest cat as a kitten and I had forgotten how crazy they are! Before he came along I had a nine year old and a thirteen year old feline so I did not have to put up with constant hyper and destructive activity! It has taken some getting used to but I do like the fact that being a baby I have been able to train him on a lead and travelling in the car etc. I wonder if you will get to keep at least one...

I don't mind black cats. We just got two kittens recently and I was hoping for a black one. One of them is grey with black stripes on top which turn to leopard type spots underneath. Her name is Mitzy. The other one has grey, black, brown and white patches all over her and her name is patches because of this. They are very cute and are always up to some kind of mischief together if they are not sleeping. They even have their own YouTube channel! http://www.youtube.com/user/PatchesAndMitzi

I'd LIKE to adopt them all but at our particular shelter it costs £60 each cat so it would be impossible, unfortunately. The £60 covers the cost of their check-ups, microchipping, worming, that kind of thing....oh and the "op" lol. Our Flojo was from a shelter in Blackpool and she is a joy to be around; she has a great personality. So like a human, touchy one minute, lovey-dovey the next!

Ours are $90, though older cats and black ones (when we have too many of them) often get discounted. Same reasons, spay/neuter, shots, worming, etc.

I haven't adopted a cat...yet. I keep saying I'm going to, but I keep getting dogs. I'm especially looking for a siamese... If it were a siamese, I'd take either a kitten or a full grown cat. I'm sure it would take a couple of days for the dogs and cat to get to be sister/brothers, but they'd do it. My family has had dogs and cats (siamese) before and I know they can play together. Good luck with Ginger.

Ohhhhh! I love kittens..I miss having kittens around I told my hubby that just a few days ago how they are always playing and having fun.. I loved watching them and they always brought joy to me. I have my older tom cat that is 3 this year..been that long since we had a kitten..since my mom took his mom home and then my stepdad let her out...and she ran off never to be seen from again...I was mad..If I were closer I would take both kittens.. I couldn't choose just one..they are both adorable..but i know because of superstitions alot of people might not take Ginger..but you know you'll love her..she will and probably is bringing joy to your lives.

Probably I'd go for a little calico or striped kitten. I like black cats so that wouldn't put me off a bit. I'm not as crazy about marmelade cats as some folks are and except for Maine C**n cats I'd probably passs a purebred by. Truth to tell, I'd fall head over heels for the first kitty that came to me in a friendly way. lol

Cat - I really don't know what I'm putting up here, but its a cat
I actually like adult cats, because they are set in their personalities, but kittens are cute... I will take whatever comes to me - but we knew that already - right? Oh, I put up a picture of Booboo and my dog Cujo

Oh, but when he was only a week or so old, he growled at the roomie's niece and so got his name. Besides, I kind of like the irony of a little brown dog named Cujo...

I used to foster kittens. I totally loved it, but I had a set up with a rabbit cage where they could be confined at night. It helped the sleep cycles for me. Of course fostering the kittens was easy as I had two Rottweilers who would take care of the kittens for me. The dogs would bathe the kittens, sleep with the kittens laying on top of them, make sure that the kittens kept out of trouble (It was sooo funny as the dogs would decide that the kittens were getting into trouble and they would gently pick the kittens up by their tails and deposit them on my lap. There is nothing quite as hilarious as seeing a 6 or 8 week old kitten hanging by its tail from a HUGE dog's mouth...they would be squalling the whole way but as soon as the dogs dropped them in my lap the kittens were loving on the dogs. I miss the two Rottweilers, I now have two mini Dachshunds and a pit/lab mix. When the mix came into my home she hated cats. I worked with her for a couple of months and she now plays with my cats and will come up and give them a big sloppy "kiss" with her tongue which leaves them dripping- and the cats don't mind! I too would be quick to adopt Ginger. I love black cats and have always had one. Right now I have one who prefers to live outside. He's 19 years old and still is in really good shape. He was a feral cat that came to me with an infection in his face, and I nursed him for about 6 weeks and he decided that I was his person from then on. He doesn't venture too far from the lot, and always greets me when I go outside, and the Pit mix also plants big sloppy kisses on him too...though he doesn't appreciate it too much.

Normally the kittens would be sleeping with the children and annoying them, but right now they are at grandma's for Easter break. Last night Jasmine slept half the night on my chest. Not sure where Ginger was...
