I just went to Google and saw the Google icon has changed, it's 205th birthday of Hans Christian Andersen. I guess most of us have read his fairy tales when we were young, his fairy tales are really very popular even after more than 100 years. You must have read "The emperor's new clothes", "the ugly duckling", "the little mermaid". The fairy tales have been translated into more than 150 languages.
For more information, you can read the wikipedia site:

Ah yes, a fine author to remember. His tales are everlasting classics. Plus they are NICE fairytales. Many people don't realize that alot of the classic fairytales passed down over the ages were created back in Medieval times. The original versions are really very gruesome with evil stepmothers being tossed naked into pits filled with vipers or being torn between quarterhorses and such.

One of the things that is definitely true of Hans Christian Andersen's stories is that they really are timeless. And they aways taught an important message to the readers. He was definitely a prolific writer and that is the reason that I believe that so many of his stories have served as the inspiration for movies, plays and so many other things. I couldn't begin to imagine what our children's lives and our own lives would have been like were it not for this great artist.

I wondered what that was. He wrote some great stories. There was a cute movie about him that Danny Kaye did years ago. And kids all over the world can read and enjoy all these great tales. He was an interesting character. What an imagination. I wish i could write some children's book. It would be alot of fun.

I was born in the same town as Hans Christian Andersen, and I have visited his museums several times. There are two museums and they are both interesting. I like most of his fairytales a lot, and when I was a child I often asked my parents to read my favourite fairytales aloud to me. I also a had a casette tape with some of his fairytales. My favourite fairytales were "The emperor's new suit", Little Claus and big Claus", "The brave tin soldier" and "The princess and the pea". I didn't like "The little match-seller" when I was a child, because it is such a sad story and it always made me cry.

Hi Kaka135, I have read most of Hans Christian Andersen fairy tales but my favourite are two, Thumbelina and The Ugly Duckling. Thumbelina is a story about a little girl
the size of a thumb who experiences some adventures before meeting her prince. The Ugly Duckling is about a duck who is mocked for his appearance but turns up to be a beautiful swan. Most of Andersen's fairy tales has been turned into movies or musicals.

I actually have one of his books of childrens fairy tales and it is a really old one. I keep it wrapped in a cloth and stored b/c the pages are really delicate and I don't want it damaged. Also Hubby smokes and I don't want that on it either. It's a wonderful book and I read it years ago when I got it. He was a great writer.
