Doctor tells patients who voted for Obama to find a new doctor

A doctor in Mount Dora posted a sign on the door to his office saying: "If you voted for Obama, seek Urology care elsewhere.Changes to your healthcare begin right now. Not in four years." Need to say this has caused a flap. The doctor says he is not turning anyone away because it would be "unethical", nor does he ask his patients who they voted for...but that if someone reads the sign and turns away.. so be it. He also provides for his patients in the waiting room with photocopies of a health-care timeline produced by Republican leaders that outlines "major provisions" in the health-care package. The doctor put a sign above the stack of copies that reads: "This is what the morons in Washington have done to your health care. Take one, read it and vote out anyone who voted for it." This doctor does have a right to free speech. His patients are free to find other doctors if they are offended. Do you see this as a big deal? Tell me what you think. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/local/breakingnews/os-mount-dora-doctor-tells-patients-go-aw20100401,0,6040296,full.story

I think this doctor is great and gutsy. It is obvious he truly cares about his patients and wants them to know the truth of the deception and treason being foisted upon them. I with there were more like him in all professions, not to mention the corrupt government trying to boondoggle them through the tyranny of the corrupt and unethical usurper obama. How sad that it has come to this and that this could happen in a once free country. But, many have chosen the tyranny of the corrupt, and this is the consequence. Looks like there are plenty of morons to go around, those in office and those foolish enough to vote for them, most especially the dark deceiver in the WH who has absolutely no business being there EVER.

Yes, I do see it as a big deal and I can guarantee you I'd never go to this doctor regardless of whether I agree with him or not on political issues! I know he has a right to free speech but by exercising it in this way he's basically told probably around half of his patients that THEY are morons since they voted for the "morons in Washington" and that he doesn't care about them. I find it interesting that he has copies of the REPUBLICANS' outline of the "major provisions" in the health care bill. I heard he appeared on Fox News and said that the bill will prevent old people from being able to go to nursing homes or something to that effect. Anyway, let's just say I don't think this moron is fit to practice medicine and I wouldn't even let him lay a finger on one of my cats! Again, this is NOT because he's obviously a Republican or because I disagree with him about the health care reform issue but because I think he's raised enough doubt for me to honestly fear he wouldn't give equal care to those who dared disagree with him. Here's a personal story for you. I've posted at some length about my daughter's battle with Crohn's Disease and how she's in the hospital for up to a month at a time several times every year. Anyway, she cleans houses with her sister-in-law now and then to earn some extra money and among their clients are a couple doctors from a nearby teaching hospital and trauma center, Geisinger Medical Center, which you may have heard of. The day after the bill was passed they were at both homes. My daughter called me after she got home half crying and said she was so stressed out and afraid she was "going to die". She was actually told by both of these women that she would likely be given pain pills and refuse any additional treatment because she was too expensive to treat and not valuable enough to society! They also rattled off many of the Republicans' talking points they obviously got from Fox News, which was on at both houses, and at one point my daughter said, "That's not what I heard" and she was told that whomever she was talking did obviously didn't know that they were talking about. The next day she had an appointment with her own doctor, who in my eyes is a SAINT for how wonderful he's treated her for years. She asked him point blank if she was going to be "allowed to die" under the new health care plan and he started laughing and then he proceeded to tell her that there's nothing at all like that in the bill, there's nothing really seriously wrong with the bill and that as long as she stuck with him she'll be fine. He also said that GMC is already guilty of doing what they said would be done to my daughter, which is decide someone isn't worth caring for. Annie

Annie, people are just worried about government control of health care. I AM. The concerns that your daughter had after people mentioned this are REAL concerns. You just said it happened to someone else! If it happens to one person, doesn't it follow that it COULD happen to anybody? I disagree with you, I think this doctor is a hero. I realize perhaps you're a democrat and you like Obama, but I don't, and I can't wait for this term to be over. I sure hope doctors will be able to keep current patients and not change the parameters in how they treat them in the next few years. There's no information that states exactly how things will be, and no guarantee that we will be able to avoid government changes, which is VERY SCARY to me! I'm sure the doctor would give FINE care to anybody who stayed on as his patient. There's no law that says you HAVE to be open about your political stance. In fact, people are better off not sharing political stance, not sharing their lifestyle preference, and I would also say not sharing their religion. If possible, it would be nice for us to also hide our age, gender, and race because then perhaps NOBODY would ever be discriminated against lol.

I think the doctor has a right to do it. Patients have the right to decide not to use him if htey don't like it. IT was not a smart business move on his part...but he is allowed to express himself. He may feel it is more important to get his voice heard than the money he would get from patients that walk out. As for calling Most of the patients morons....well he is in a highly republican area...so it is probly a smaller amount he is calling a moron.

I say more power to him. This is his livelihood. This reminds me of the business man when the economy started falling fast. He had to lay people off, didnt want to, he had a small business, and they were all like family. Finally after a lot of thought he went out to the parking lot, looked at his employees cars and laid off anybody with a Obama bumper sticker. Is it right? probably not, but understandable. When you want something, vote for it, you have to expect the consequences.

What a jerk and anti-democratic doctor. Selfish, greedy doctors tried to sabotage the national health service here when it was being set up. all the best urban

Actually this doctor tried to set up a private HMO system that was run only by doctors and hospitals in an attempt to keep big business out of him. You really should avoid making such assumptions without knowing the facts about this guy. Besides, if this were a matter of democracy the healthcare bill would have failed as the majority do NOT support it.

I'd love it if my doctor did that! He's hurting no-one, & helping some by giving them the stupid bill to see for themselves why it's worse than useless--it's destructive. It almost makes me want to laugh at those who actually believe this thing will "improve" the best health care system on the planet, & that they'll get all these "free" "benefits." I despair of that sort ever learning better until it comes back to bite them in their keisters! There's just enough meanness in me to want to see their faces when it happens! So although he'll lose some Kool-Aid drinkers, I'm betting his patients are going to increase, since the majority of folks are already aware of what a traitorous crock the bill & its creators are! GO DOC GO! Maggiepie 2012--CHANGE WE CAN really BELIEVE IN!

I agree with him about the bill and the morons in Washington and I'm glad he's openly voicing his opinion. As a doctor, he's probably more knowledgeable than the average person about the impact this bill will actually have on our healthcare system, doctors and patients and he wants people to know about it. There is no doubt in my mind that this bill will make things worse, not better and we'll be paying for it with much higher taxes for years to come. Way to go Doc!

I think it is an excellent conversation starter. If a patient took it seriously (and voted for Obama - it's their own fault anyway! ) and left, oh well. Instead they could tell the doctor how it is going to cure every illness and have Obama declared a saint, or whatever they think is so great about the Plan and the Man, and the doctor could show them what's inside the 2000 plus pages of bureaucratic mumbo-jumbo.

This is GREAT!!! I would gladly pat him on the back for not being afraid to distribute information and not afraid to state how he feels!

I see this doctor's actions as a polite protest. He's not denying anyone his services, just voicing his anger over this bill that has been crammed down everyone's throat.

I do understand where the doctor is coming from, and he does have the right of speech to express his opinion. And he did say that he is not turning anybody away, but rather giving them the choice to go elsewhere if they do not agree and are offended by his opinion. I applaud him for standing his ground. But then again, this may have been made into a big deal via that sign that he posted on his office. May be good in the sense that his practice is being talked about, but at the same time, may bring in negative comments that may have been dodged if the sign had not come about.

I read that today and got a laugh out of it. He is well within his own rights to post anything he wants and it's been complained about but legally he is within the bounds because he's not questioning any of his patients. I applaud him really. With people getting 'detained' and having the FBI search their homes all because of a stupid bumper sticker - I think his actions speak pretty loud, especially since he's a doctor.

i think first of all the doctor must be given the chance to say what ever he wants to. but there is also the level of mind of that doctor is shown. i think he does not consider the things what benefits people will get due to the new bill. but he is seeing the competition for him. i think if those doctors are not good patient will come back. so why he worried.

It was in CNN earlier - somehow it was a bit twisted because he will refuse anyone who voted for Obama, but then I do understand his frustration over the approval of the said healthcare reform - and unfortunately, nobody wins here.

I see nothing wrong with what the doctor did. In fact, I'm going to suggest to my doctor, who feels the same, to do the same thing (rather than retire, as he suggested he would if the bill passed).

i agree with you, the doctor is probably expressing what he strongly feels and believes in. It is not a crime to make a stand
