i think in my computers some system files are corrupted. but i am not sure what are they. is there any way to fix them directly without formatting the pc. i think a way is to use the sfc scannow option. but i am not sure about this.

Use the XP installation disk to perform a recovery after backing up important files in driver C.

Yes you can do this option. No need to worry as Windows will only repair the system files that may have been altered. You will need the windows XP installer for this as you will be prompted to load the CD once they found corrupted or altered system files.

Unfortunately, I don't think that there is a way that you can fix corrupted files in your operating system if you don't know which are the files that are corrupted. I know I had some major system errors several months ago and my husband (who is my resident computer guru) had me back up everything that I needed from my onboard hard drive and then had to entirely reinstall windows. It was a pain in the behind to get it done, but it worked like a charm.

please boot your pc from the win xp cd and go to the repair option, this will fix the corrupt files without reinstalling the OS/, you can do a repair from the recovery console first, if that does not work just go for the repair option. Both these options are avaialble after you boot from the CD.
