there is no doubt that both are destructive batsmen of world cricket.both plays shots like bullets. But i think that gilly is best destructive batsmen world has ever seen. Its gilly who started a new dimension that opening batsman should fire to get a good total.Though sehwag can play faster but gilly is fastest. And i also says he is the only player who got place in ICC's best TEST-11,ODI-11 and T20-11, and also he got place in australia's all time 11. what do you say guys, gilly or sehwag?

Hi kiran your topic is an interesting one that involves the two most destructive batsmen the world has ever seen..on their day they can tear away any bowling attack and it is very difficult to mention who is better as they have different strengths and weaknesses.Let's see their strengths and weaknesses..1)Very good hand eye coordination- both have very good hand eye coordination..2)Short ball-Gilly is a better player of short ball than Sehwag..3)Spin-Undoutedly sehwag plays spin much better than Gilly..4)Consistency-Gilly scores over sehwag in this particular department..5)300 runs in a test inning- we all know who has that it's sehwag..6)Hard Work-Remember that Gilly had to keep wickets for a substantial length of time and then come back to open the batting for his team is really commendable job.All the above points when taken into account rates Gilly above Sehwag definitely and so there is no reason why I shouldn't agree with you that Gilly is a better option than Sehwag specially in one dayers and t20.

yes but there is nothing which can be said about any that any body is the life time best. i am sure one day the records of sachin will be broken by someone. as Don Bradman. but what ever. we can consider the current performance and on this only we can decide who is better.

No doubt the Gilchrist is one of the destructive batsmen world has seen. But I don't think even Australians will try to compare Gilchrist with Sehwag and claim Gilchrist is better than Sehwag. And opening batsman should fire dimension has different claims. Usually, Sri Lankans are attributed to that credit because of their terrific implementation of that tactic in 1996 World Cup. Sanath Jayasuriya and Romesh Kaluvitarana are the ones who did it for their team. And that tactic got maximum attention from one and all. Some people even say that Sachin has already used that technique when he played as an opener for the first time at Auckland against New Zealand and scored 82 off 42 deliveries or so. So Gilchrist is not the one who started it. But he was certainly one of the best for a long time use it successfully. Gilchrist joins the Best World XI because of his Keeping and Batting. Not just on batting. I don't really like to compare. For me both are almost equal while Sehwag having slight edge due to his Triple Centuries. Happy Mylotting!

I am also don't think that Gilchrist is better than sehwag.. because sehwag is also a good batsman.. and many times he played a good match winning innings for India.. so i think.. sehwag is also a good batsman.. have a nice day and keep mylotting always..

My goodness! You guys seem to have so much knowledge about world cricket:)If given a choice I would definitely choose Gilchrist on Sehwag as his team can rely on him more than the Indian team relying on Sehwag. I like the way South Africans and Australians head their game just better than any other team.

In cricket we can't really compare two players, it also depends upon the team, if the team needs a batsman and a wicket keeper, than of course Gilchrist but if the teams needs a bowler and a batsman then Sehwag will be chosen, as a batsman, i prefer Gilchrist to finish and chase a huge run and Sehwag to start a and not the finishing part.

I don't think we should compare the two. BTW, the first player who started the principle that the opener should attack was our own Chika (Krishnamachari Srikanth). After that Greatbatch, Jayasuriya and Sachin had already made it the vogue of the one dayers. Gilchrist only started after that. So it was not he who started this new dimension. Sehwag is the person who has shown that even in tests openers can attack the bowling. Of course, Michael Slater before him had the same principle, but was much less successful. So if you ask me no need to compare the two. The two are great players and fulfill their team's requirements. Cheers! Ram
