What do you think about the combination of genres?

I think people focus too much on the genre of music and not enough on the music itself. My favorite band, Kill Hannah, kind of defies genres with their sound. I read a review of their latest album that called it a mix of 80's pop, punk, metal and something that didn't really have a title but it was something you might hear in a synth-heavy dance club. Really, they just call themselves rock.
Genres are okay for keeping things organized in a record store or (in a smaller way) programming a radio station, but I am a firm believer in listening to the song for what it is and if you like it, great, if not, oh well, move on to the next song.

I say cool. Power to the combos. I really listen to music for the lyrics, I don't much care what the song sounds like although sound does help sometimes. I really like hearing songs that I liked in one genre of music in a completely different genre. Like going from the soft piano ballad to the electronic remix. I think that's awesome. Strong lyrics don't need a certain music type to still have meaning.
I think rock and pop actually go pretty good together, and I like hearing symphonic metal which is basically a combination of rock/metal with the more traditional instruments and classical music.

Hey! I think that combination of genre of musics is a difficult try.
Or you create an art or you f*** it all. And you have the risk of everybody hate you because you messed up a genre they like! haha
But sometimes is kind of positive combinations. Like Folk Rock or Folk Metal, Symphonic Metal is nice too, kind of epic. Funk Rock is nice too.

I think it's very good. Combining genres showcase the artist's flexibility or skills in music. Isn't it surprising if there's a band who plays rock n roll then later you'll hear them combine it with jazz? It is another flavor to taste, right? Happy day!!!

I think that it's good of course and happens a lot. If you listen to Most artists they will combine at least two different genres in at least one of their songs on the album. I think it's a good thing as it shows a bit of variety and I think the more the artist experiments with different styles the better their career is for it. If you look at Michael Jackson for instance and just think how many different genres he was involved in.
