In that competitive society, people need to study harder than has ever been before in order to obtain a good job with decent payment, original it was a good thing for children that could motivate them leaning more kownledge and improving their ability to think. however, then the grades became a standard for children wheather they are superb or not. therefore, students pay increasingly time using their high intelligience to figure out strategy practice to obtain higher or top grades without deeper thinking, rather than spend the same time exploring. Do grades encourage students to learn? absolutely not!

I think grades have its uses but also its limitations. There should be some measurement of how well students are going in their classes but that measurement shouldn't make students think they are against each other for the best grades. I certainly remember how worked up me and my friends got on the day that tests are passed back.

Of course. Grades make a student to work hard. It is human nature that he always wants to go up. Every student wants to improve their grades so that their prestige and intelligence increases and he should be the best student in the school. So grades categorised the student as bad, good, very good, excellent. therefore to become a good student he started to learn more and more.

I think to some extent that is true. I mean, if the student wants to excel and move on, they will need the good grades to go. Therefore, they will need to learn and study. Of course, this is something that while it works for many children, it does not work for all children. There are just some students that do not care enough about their grades and if they do not do as well, that is really nothing they can be concerned with.
Of course, they pay for it together, but I just get the impression from some students that they attend school because they have nothing better to do. Or that they have to. Therefore grades will work in many cases, but exactly how well they work is pretty much tied into each individual ambition of the individual students. Therefore, some students who want to achieve will want to learn more while others, not so much. Still if they work in some cases, that should be fair enough I would think.

Grades exist only to get money out of people. It drives people to compete, and the schools producing the highest-ranked students end up being the ones who make the money in the end. Ever since taxes began, ever since curceny existed, money has been the driving force behind all things.

Hi jenny
Getting a good grade certainly encourges students, but i know some schools and colleges, that award elevated grades to students, they get misguided, it is loss for them...
Thanks for this nice post, cheers
Happy easter

well, that's depend on the students itself. yeah, they really do need good grades in order to have a better job in the future. but they have to use it wisely, i mean the grades are established to determine the level of knowledge of the students. if they study just to obtain high grade by looking at the past years papers, quizzes and study from it, that's not good because the main purpose of studying is to obtain knowledge, not to get high grade. if students really understand what they learn, they will surely score high grade.

It depends on the student. If the student is after for the grades, then he/she will be motivated to learn.

Well that will be depending on an individuals point of view. Some students are motivated when they are given good grades, actually its not given the grades that you have will be depending on how hard you will work for them. Now if you have high grades then i believe you deserve them .And if im the student then i will be motivated indeed. Thats why i said it depends on the personality of the student too ;) Thank you for asking and enjoy your day ;)

Learning to win and learning to learn to win are two different things. Unfortunately, it's the standard we setup and I guess we're kinda stuck with it.

for me when a professor give you a good grade or a high grade that mean that the professor acknowledge your effort how you excel they give you what grade you deserve and for me that's one kind of motivating a person to do more to excel on their studies but for others it is just a figure.

yes of course, it is the basis if the student really learn something, if the student got a failing grade, the parents and teacher must encourage the child to study hard to achieve good grades, by this the child will not lose his appetite in studying the lesson the teacher taught
