Savings is a serious word for me, I always have a fix percentage of savings draw from my monthly income.I did it in purpose to keep me save in track…I save 50% of my monthly income and by hook I have to do it without any possibility breaking my goal. And that should be in proper and no matter I have enough for myself my savings will still be doing the same.. Have you ever keep some savings from your monthly income? How much do you save base on your monthly payment? Hope to hear from you my fellow mylotters! Good day everyone!

Hi IJ, take half of your income each month. Do this for six months and make sure you put that into a moneymarket, interset with every month. It helps a lot and you always have something when you really need it. TATA.

I do it backwards. I get my total income and lessen my monthly overhead which includes my utilities, fare expense, food cost, vice money and entertainment then what ever is left, I still break it down to sections which are emergency funds ( money i don't touch) and savings for something i am saving for like appliance, gadgets, clothings and stuff.

Hello tigerdragon, Yah that's also a good method if you cannot figure out how much your monthly expenses require for monthly spending, after complete all those necessary things and obligations for payments then the rest will be put into emergency fund, but for sure once its called emergency funds there still a possibility to cash out, a fix saving can be only used when you lose the source of income, when something you don't expect to happened and there's no one to run for help. Its good to know you are doing that too, Thank you for sharing! Happy myLotting!

hi cloud, I do save a percentage on my earnings. I do 10% savings on my earning because it's hard to go 50% just like you. I have an average wage salary and earning online is just my part time. With all the bills that I have to pay and things to save up for my little angel. An emergency money savings for me is only 10%.

I do not save any amount from my earnings ---its too early for me to plan as i'm still a part time earner so as of now i have no plans to save from the money i get now---i should make it a practice though when i go for the full time job---its always good to have some money for emergency cases which comes handy rather than relying on those credit cards which can give a shock with interests accumulated at the end of the month

Hi jira, You are lucky indeed you have an allowance from your scholarship grant, and why don't you try to save when you have money to buy unnecessary things instead of buying try to keep a little amount in your piggy bank, hehehe then you have something to draw just in case.. Thanks for sharing and happy myLOtting!

Wow 50% percent is so high. What are your plans why do you save that big percent of your salary. What is that for? Well I can only save 10% of my salary since I do have many credit card bills and I provide for my family’s needs. Sometimes I forgot to save because my salary on the time is not enough I have so many deductions because I have two loans. Sometimes there is nothing left for me and I have to rely on my online earnings for my transportation. I envy you for doing that 50% savings. I hope you can have a better investment out of that savings.

good to hear that you have saved a portion of your monthly income. that will be a good way to be prepared for the future. i have always wanted to do the same. but unfortunately, i have no enough earnings and what i earn from this regular job is not even enough for the weekly budget. most of the time, i will end up borrowing money from other people. worse, when someone in the family gets sick. just like today, we have this young kid who needs medicine for six months. and after that, i just hope it will end to that and no operation will be needed to make him feel better during sleeps.

I certainly wish I could save 50% of my income every month. I am lucky if I can save some change. Hopefully I can do better this month. I really need to discipline myself better. I am the only one who can do it. I have a goal as well but it is very difficult when things cost so much.

I do not save anything from my earnings these days as I only pay myself what I need from my small business. We try to leave as much as possible in the business to continue buying more stock and growing it. When I was younger and single with no kids and working a normal job I used to save half of my weekly wage each week easily. This would not be possible these days if I had a job as we have family costs and a house mortgage. It would only be possible if my wife ran the business on her own and I went back to work full time but I do not want to do that as I enjoy working from home and spending more time with my children.

At this point in our lives, my husband and I really are living from paycheck to paycheck and this does mean that we aren't really able to save anything from his weekly paycheck. However, in a certain sense we are saving money because of the fact that we are working through the debt that we'd accrued in the prior seven years and in less than two and a half years from now the only debt that we will owe will be our house and at that point we hope to be able to save about 25% of our weekly income.

I can't keep to a persentage of savings. If I'm lucky to save, then so be it, but that's not always the case. I don't want to end up drowning in debt for nothing you know? So if my bils get paid, then that's the most important.

that topic is related to an old adage about the two questions you should never ask a woman. i don't know why, but even my european friends, especially the french, agree with that adage. well, probably, it's been tested and it elicits adverse responses from women. do you know it, my friend. but going back to your income:savings percentage... i don't have any steadfast formula... i don't have an eight to five or nine to six job... i work from home and my time is demand driven... my income is determined by the magnitude of work i render... when i get my fee, i sometimes stash 98 percent of it in the bank... more for the rainy day than when i retire...

wow! thats a good idea, but i really have a hard time dealing with the word SAVINGS. i have my savings account but it seems to be useless. i do save almost 25% of my monthly savings but before the month ends i almost spend half of it. its a long term goal for me to save.

Good for you. How I wish I am just like you. And seldom save money from my monthly income, due to my limited resources. I am the one incharge of paying our cable and electrical bills and I also give money to my mom, so what left on me is just for my transportation expenses.

Wow. 50% is a huge chunk! I envy you for being able to manage that. I set aside a minimum of 10% of my salary, and then add to it when I have money left over. I hope I can up it to 20% soon!

That is really great that you are able to save up 50% of your total income to a savings account. The interest does really add up over a long period of time. For me, It would be really tough to save up that high percentage Because I am living on a fixed income and budget.

I admire your self control and determination in saving money. I presume you're really earning that much and you're still single. I, being a breadwinner, no matter how much I tried to save, I always come to a point of spending whatever little savings I have. The only thing I can call savings from my income right now is actually what we call "forced savings". It's actually a form of insurance and long term investment at the same time, the premium of which is deducted from salary. Starting just early this year, I noticed the cute bear or rabbit shaped coin banks which were left overs from the souvenirs from my daughter's seventh birthday. My youngest child played with them. I started keeping them in one place and saving coins early this year. I was able to save enough to make me feel happy about my little accomplishment.
