hi guys,
i'm still a student in a local university and english is not my first language. i'm having a problem where i found that i really scare to speak out my opinion especially in front of peoples. when i try, my hands will be shaking and i will lose everything that i wanted to say. i just got fed up with myself because of this problem. I want to be like anyone else, who can really voice out their opinion confidently but i just can't. This thing also happen when i'm doing my presentation and it get worst when it is conducted in English. i think that my english is good enough in communicating, but i just don't know what is my problem and how to solve it. Maybe u guys can help me in my problem. it would be great if u can.. i feel really sad right now.

for those who come from non-english speaking countries, english language could be a barrier in communication. lack of confidence could be one of the reasons for not willing to speak up your mind. it happens because someone doesn't have enough vocabulary to express his mind, being afraid to make mistakes when talking or doesn't have any good and interesting topic to talk about. if you talk with someone about something you don't really like, i think you won't feel confident, but on the other hand, if you talk about someone with the same interest i believe you will express your mind more easily and smoothly, right? So, the main point in my opinion is the psychological barrier, your confidence. It is similar if you give your presentation in front of the audience. The first thing is to ask your self whether you really understand about the topic you are presenting or you are doubtful yourself? then anticipate the questions that may come up after the presentation. note down some main points to talk about which you can refer to, and use your own language and don't try to use some sophisticated words that you are not not really sure of their meanings.

I am an online english teacher and I think there's nothing wrong with your English. I think you just need to practice having conversations with someone. You can also practice speaking English even if you are alone. Maybe it might sound crazy but you it can help. I did that before and it doing me a lot of good things. I was able to do it so I think you can also do it. Dont stop learning and dont stop training yourself even if you are already good at it. If you need help then just send me a message.

Hi zeer,
If you really want to improve your English speech, you need to practice it more and more. Remember, practice make perfect. There is no other way to improve your speech then spoke to someone who know the correct usage of English grammar. If you afraid to speak to someone you are not familiar with, you can try it with your friends or your family members. It is a little bit embarrassing experience at first but when you get to used it, the feeling would go away and if you can do it regularly, you will be amuse to see how far you improve your speech.

Everyone goes through these imperfections in the beginning. You should not be worried about these failures as you know 'failure is a stepping stone to success'. Keep on at it and before you know it you will be an expert at it.

You have the same problem as i do. Well i also had problem on speaking when i do presentation. And get scared but never loose myself. Just think this way, people are watching you and listening to you. And they are expecting something from you. And if you mess up that's a bad impression. So think about doing it right before starting your presentation. And don't think anything when you are doing presentation. Because what you had to think you thought that before and time to do what you prepared for. If you can stop thinking how you are performing then you can do better.
There is nothing to be sad. Others you see were in your place someday. And they also understand your problem. So just face your fear and you will see it's gone at some point.

Hi Zeer. You speak quite good. I certainly would not speak your language with half the fluency you show.
However, if you want to improve your English, do as others do and take a formal language class.
I think your shaking is more stage fright than lack of fluent English and many people get that. The main way to get over that is loads of practice, first in front of family, then friends and gradually moving to rooms of strangers, such as town meetings where you can express your opinions.
Good luck, my friend. I think you are halfway through your problem since you recognize it and have asked for help in overcoming it.

Let's see. If you were asked to speak in front of your class in your local language, are you comfortable? Or are you also nervous and jittery just the same? If you are not comfortable speaking publicly in both english and your local language, then what you need to practice is creating you own special safe bubble while you speak in front. You can try looking just above the heads of your audience, Or imagine you are speaking to a bunch of potatoes. :) If you are only nervous when you need to speak in english, then you should practice maybe by reading aloud in front of a few people and then eventually get in front of a crowd.

First, you should be more confident, you don't care and worry what you will say, if you think your opinion is good, speak and express yours to others, people won't laugh you.

Hi Zeer,
Good day!
It's normal for you to feel that way because you are not comfortable with the language. Another thing is you lack the confidence to express your self because you are afraid that people might laugh at you or maybe make fun of your English. However, you have to face this challenge. If you will not then you will go on forever like this.
Remember that practice makes perfect. That's why for you to be able to practice your English it's good to engage in a site like this one. However, it does not end there. You also have to make English language a part of your life. You have to practice speaking in this language everyday. It would help to talk to people who are really good in this language. You will learn from them. Eventually, you'll find your self confident and comfortable speaking in English.

The best thing to do is PRACTICE. Practice a lot. Read different materials in English, and try reading out loud so you can hear yourself. But if you're saying that you think your English is good enough, then it may be confidence issue. Well, almost everybody goes through that. Some are not very confident about their looks, the way they dress while some are not very comfortable in voicing out their opinions because of not being confident in using a foreign language. All you need to do is believe in yourself. Don't think too much about what other people have to say about you.
Of course, it doesn't happen in a snap. It takes some getting used to it. Don't worry about it too much, because the more you do, the more you'll be nervous about standing in front and voicing out your thoughts.

Try joining extra curricular activities. It will help you boost your confidence.you get confident when you know you are well prepared and have lots of experiences in public speaking. i was just like you before, but thanks to a friend who insisted and later convinced me to join theater. Theater had helped me become active and overcome all my insecurities in speaking English.

Hi! Your problem is not really much on English but more on public speaking. In occasions that you will be facing an audience with English as your communication medium, prepare for it. Practice helps a lot. Try doing it in front of a mirror several times and record your own voice. This will help you evaluate yourself. It would also help if you use powerpoint in your presentations or other materials so that the focus of the listeners will be much on the topic and not to you as speaker. Also prepare an outline of your topic.
With regards to confidence booster in using English, try to make friends with native English speakers. Use English often. You may also check my blog: http://teachersandtutors.blogspot.com
I'll be posting there some practical tips which may help you master the English language.
I hope this will help you feel better.

I know how you feel, and what you are going through! English is my first language, but I suffered from not being able to speak in public. Then I found "Toastmasters International," which is a free program that teaches Public Speaking. This is an American program that is in many countries of the world. This program would be in English, and you would learn Public Speaking one night a week. It worked for me!
You will gain confidence, and learn English at the same time.

AS far as I am concerned, I think your English is really good now in writing, but the biggest problem that you are facing is that you do not have the courage to speak your English out. For me, I think the best way to overcome this problem is to just read more, try your best to speak the English out and can heard by yourself at first ,then can be heard by some of your friends, Then the last you must make everyone heard your English. Have a nice day here.

Hi Zeer
Reading your discussion - I do not know why you have this feeling - your English is excellent - no grammar or spelling mistakes, you express very clearly - so get out of this complex you have and think & be positive, it may even help to speak to yourself loudly or read loudly in English in front of a mirror, and whenever you converse with anyone if that person knows English the do so in that language- if he is a friend with whom you converse in your local language and also knows English like you then all the better- you can tell him that both of you can derive the mutual benefit of improving English in conversations. And make the most of every opportunity you get talking in English.
ALL THE BEST
