Some say athletes are just body movers and nothing more, others say we chose to be athletes to avoid going to school because we are weak when it comes to academics which is not true at all, so, whats your opinion?

Sorry ,I typed in the wrong page.I don't think athelete are stupid. On the contrary,I do admire them. They overcome a lot of difficulties and do their best to be successful. They face a lot of pressure but conquer it.I don't know why there are some people say they are stupic.

Some of them are. Some of them aren't. Athletes are people too. If you suck in academics then you suck in academics. Why people choose to be athletes, i dunno for sure. They just have a higher probability of being caught being stupid.

Yep. Yep. I'm pretty good in academics (or so people tell me) and I guess I'm pretty strong but i've never really tried to play sports for college or anything. I'm lazy but thats a whole different story lol. some people are indeed insensitive toward athletes, treating them like dumb clods though a lot of them carry themselves as such, but some are willing to treat them as intelligent peoples.

I think that people who aren't athletes stereotype athletes as being stupid. Athletes are just people. Not everyone's a genius. However, there are a lot of reasons to why people might think athletes are stupid. Because sports and practice take up a lot of time, athletes might not have as much time to study. Another reason is that some athletes probably believe that their athletic ability is enough for success. In other words, some athletes turn out to be naive and believe that they are above the law, thus doing things without thinking about the consequence of their actions. Some athletes might take advantage of that and use their athletic skills to get them wherever they want. This can also reflect actors, singers, or other famous people in general.

Ouch, sometimes thats true, athletes use their "being athletes" to get what they want or to avoid other responsibilities, I have done this sometime ago, Biology was my next class and I didn't know that their will be a quiz about cells and other things I forgot to review, I approach the teacher and asked if I can take the quiz some other time because I didn't have the time to study because of tennis practices (I was a varsity at that time) and my teacher said yes, I was able to review more and got a good score.aww.

No not at all, although there are some who are lets just say intellectually challenged lol but that doesnt mean they are stupid.Athletes exert most of their effort in the field of sport that they are in. But most of these sports require certain grades too for them to be qualified.Other people tend to tag athletes to be stupid maybe because they thought they are acting too cool most of the time. But if you ask me you should get to know them first before you start calling them names. Who knows he or she might become one of your closest friend

I totally disagree. I have a brother and a friend who are both athletes. I am not saying this because they are close to me but that is what I can see. They both value education and spend enough time to their studies. They never let their sports be the reason of not attending classes.

We all have our strengths and being good in sports is the strength of the athlete. They may not do well with academics but they are actually smart enough to know they can excel in professional sports.
But there are also those who do well in both academics and sports. They are realistic enough to know they cannot play professional sports forever and would like to have a future in a different field after playing.

I don't think they're stupid, I don't think anyone who's stupid could ever be an athlete, it takes dedication, will power and a lot of analytical skills to do an athlete's job. They make decisions on how the game should be played or how they should act. One good example would be the game of tennis, yes you may have the power or have the agility, but if you don't know how to decide which strategy to use during the game, you'll lose. Same with the other games.
I think that because they're focused so much with the game, and they don't practice academics more than they practice their gameplan this is why most athletes are assumed to be stupid.
It's just like when a person is in school as compared to another person who has not been in school for a long while. If both are given a math quiz, of course, the person who's been in school would have a higher rate than the other. Simply because his analytical skills in computation is honed and used more than the other person's. But this doesn't mean the other person is stupid.
I have experienced this when after 10years of graduating my Bachelors and have gone to work I cam back to take my Masters. It wasn't easy, I felt so dumb, I couldn't understand a simple paragraph. After a while, I got the hang of it. It doesn't mean I became stupid, it was just because I haven't been using that skill for a long time, thus my skills wasn't honed and used which is why I couldn't get it as I expected. But after a while, I got the hang of it.

I don't think they're stupid because knowledge is based on different things. Remember that there is logical skills, motor skills, interpersonal skills, intrapersonal skills, musical skills, knowledge on arts, etc. So what they lack for example in numbers or computations, they compensate in their motor skills, so that means if they were stupid, that would make the geniuses stupid on other skills. And if I were to choose, I would rather be an athlete because athleticism cannot be taught in any school unlike knowledge based on books.

In my point of view I guess there are some but not all. I'm an athlete myself and I'm a Registered Nurse... People often say that merely because of insecurities.. Just believe in your self no matter what others say it is you who makes your Image.
