Liverpool failure to take the full points from St Andrew against Birmingham City dent their hopes of finishing forth in the English Premier League. They were currently at the sixth place, four points behind Manchester City at the forth place. Manchester City (and Tottenham Hotspur - fifth place) still has a game in hand.
Liverpool share the spoil with Birmingham City with the score line 1-1. Liverpool lead at the early stage of the second half from Steven Gerrard goal in the 47th minutes. But Liam Ridgewell score the equalizer for Birmingham City nine minutes later.
It is really bad season for Liverpool and the worst since Rafa Bernitez took over as a coach. Every thing is not right for them from management to the players.

I will be very happy if they dont qualify for europe but also concerned about manu if they dont win the premier league this it would be pretty sad because without ronaldo and tevez they have done so well to reach where they are now but lost with chelsea. Hope they win all their games after this

Hi a98231,
It is very bad week for both Liverpool and Manchester United.
Both teams lost at European cups and both teams lost at league match.
Both teams have their targets fade away.
Manchester United lost their grip on the table and have to stand second now. While, Liverpool chances to secure the Champion League qualifying round for next season faded away.
And both teams rely on others result to have a chances to claim their targets.

@ bangipung,
I think Rafa Benitez is a good coach. Otherwise he would not capable to guide Liverpool to won their 5th Champion League trophy at his very first season or guide Valencia to won La Liga twice (2001/02 and 2003/04).
But he is tactical strategies this season does not work at all. His choices of the players also not so convincing. And his biggest mistake is letting Xabi Alonso go to Real Madrid. Xabi Alonso replacement is not a proper one. Xabi play as a defensive midfielder but Aquilani is more to offensive/attacking midfielder. Totally different position and function.
I also doubt that Rafa Benitez would be fired. The owner of Liverpool would never fired him because they need to pay a big amount of compensation if they do so. As a stinky owner, they definitely would not do that. It is Rafa Benitez own choice if he want to go.

i think liverpool management should make a decision to replace their coach.
they have many high quality players, but their coach can't optimize it.
i think harry redknapp is suitable to replace benitez next season

Yes, now it remains to be seen how Rafa fulfills his guarantee that he will ensure the fourth spot. I think Gerrard's face said it all. He was shocked and disappointed that Torres was substituted with more than 20 minutes in the clock. Then to add to that Ngog who replaced him spurned at least 3 simple chances.
I think you are right that until Man City really blows up, Liverpool are truly well and done for that fourth spot.
Cheers!

Hi ram,
I really can not believe Rafa Benitez substitute Fernando Torres in this game especially when Birmingham City just make it 1-1. It might be reasonable if Liverpool was leading with a a goal or two, but not when it is 1-1. Liverpool really need the full point to keep pressure to Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur.
I can not believe Rafa benitez use exhausted as the reason for him to replace Fernando Torres with Daviv Ngog. If there is any player who is exhausted then it is Dirk Kuyt. He run all over the field and played week in week out.
With only five games to played, Liverpool need to win all of it. And their biggest task would be on May 1 as they entertain Chelsea at Anfield. They also need Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal do them a big favor by beating the other forth place chaser.

Hi iwrite,
I think Liverpool has been downgraded. Their performance is very bad compare to last season or the seasons before. Every part of Liverpool team seem not done what they suppose to be done. Defender is careless, midfielder is far from good and striker is none without Fernando Torres. All they can hope now is Europa League and qualify for the Europa League for next season. So shame for such great team.

Hi buddy,
I want to respond your topic, although i did not watch the match against with Birminham City. But i reviewed the sport news and got that Liverpool only acquire one point in such a key time.
Liverpool does not perform as good as last season. In my opinion, no enough transfer funs play a key role to cause this. Additionally, Torres out of match for a long time due to injury and declinded state Gerrand maybe do some contribution.
Liverpool still have the chance to chase the qualification for the next season Europe Champion, if she does not make mistakes and at the same time, Manchester City T hotspur do some fault. And first of all, Liverpool should win the remain matches.
(If you are disagree with the viewpoinit or even reject it, please neglact it and please never mind my personal opinion)

Hi buddy,
This is a discussion after all. Every opinion is welcome here even if it is different from mine.
As a fan of Liverpool, I can say I am disappointed with their performance this season. So disappointed. This season is their worst performance for a long time. Kick out from Carling Cup by Reading (first division team), lost to second string Arsenal team at FA cup, fail to progress for the knockout stage of Champion League and almost impossible to grab the forth place at English Premier League.
It would be a miracle if they could qualify for Champion League next season. The best they can hope for the time being is Europa League. I am just being realistic. There is no need for a false hope.
I do hope Fernando Torres could stay for next season and Liverpool could come back as a team to be afraid of.

Its over.completely over,we can see that man city and spurs are winning and improving each game. Its not going to be liverpool in the champions league spot at the end of the season.Liverpool should think of how to keep fernando torres for at least one more season and sack the manager.

Hi razim,
I agree with you. It can be consider over for Liverpool chance to play in the Champion League competition next season. With current standing and situation, only miracle can give them the spot for the forth place in English Premier League this season. They need all against the odds.
It would be hard task for Rafa Bernitez (if he still in charge next season) to keep on Fernando Torres. There are a lot of teams that look for his service. Roman Abramovic has given Carlo Anchelotti 100 million pound to spend next season and among the target for Carlo Anchelotti is Fernando Torres.

Probably it's over for Liverpool. Another team that is hopelessly fighting for Champions League is Juventus. Yesterday another bad game against Udinese (a team fighting to stay in the Serie A!), lost 3-0! If theycontinue to play that way they'll lose the opportunity to struggle even for the Europa League!

Hi Nemonezonicamidecus,
Liverpool has only a mathematical chance to qualify for the next season Champion League qualifying round. Their chances is very slim and hope the teams above them to lost all their matches.
Juventus has better chances to qualify for Champion League qualifying round then Liverpool. Even though they were currently seventh in the Serie A standing, they were only three points shorter then Palermo, the forth position. With eight games to go, the possibility is much higher.
