no easter bunny?

why does mexico not have the easter bunny tradition? this was my first easter in mexico, and my kids waited for the easter bunny to come...i went to the mega and several other places trying to find stuff for easter....no luck on the easter bunny stuff, but we saw a lot of people walking in the street holding crosses...why is the tradition so different here?
