How do you gather referrals?

ive had that problem since being here. here they wont let you put referrals and on other sites you cant put referrals
so i really dont see how you get them. ive tried friends and family to with no takers. they go on facebook and myspace for nothing. its crazy. 
here is better but cant seem to get anyone to listen...uuuhhgg!

and i tell my friends and family. what does it matter if they think it might be a scam? its still beter then the sites they belong to because here people actually communicate. its so stupid that on them other social sites i have over 300 and some friends. one Might type something to me every 6 to 7 mths.
geesh..here friends talk to you always..at least most do.

Become friends with someone here and PM whatever you wish. I trade sites with mylotters but I don´t spam them with my sites if they are not interested. I don´t answer posts about sites I haven´t asked but I´m willing to trade

If you have a facebook account you can post your link to your website their, start inviting people you know, and they might even end up inviting more people they know to your site.

If you are a member of other forums, you can use the links on your signature. I rarely look for referrals (because my main online income comes from blogging). But when there's something really interesting, I place the link on the homepage of my blogs.
