Is flat screen TV an electric saver?

We have a flat screen TV in our house. It is so huge and sometimes i don't want to watch tv there because i felt dizzy when i watch their specially when i am watching action movies. Last week our electric bill had came up with a shocking payment of almost 3,000 pesos. My mother scolded me for that, I justify myself because i am just using laptop. I usually charge it 2 times a day because of its long-life battery and i am sure that laptop is really an electric saver. Based on my observations on why is it our electric bill was so high i've noticed our TV. My mother is always watching for almost 12 hours a day. She said to me that it is okey because it is an electric saver. Is that true ?.he he he . Cite your opinions

I don't know what 3000 pesos equals to in US money but I have a 32 inch flat screen tv and from what I heard they use less electricity then the old tv's. My electric bill is not high at all. I usually have at least one or two tv's on for the better part of the day along with the computer. My electric bill averages only about 45.00 dollars a month. I also use the newer light bulbs all through the house and I don't leave lights on unnecessarily. I also keep appliances unplugged when not in use.

some of the newest ones do conserve energy..but the larger it is and the longer it's on kind of negates that.i'd be pointing the finger back at mom myself.

from what i've heard the newer tv's do use more power. we've got a 42 inch plasma, and it does seem to put the power up. apart from the older style air con, and then when people don't want to help you use it responsebly and try to save some money. many of us also have bigger tv's than what we would of had back when we were growing up as well.

While it's true that flat tv requires less energy (Watt) than normal tv..I guess to watch about 12 hours a day makes it somewhat useless if the goal was to save electricity....

Its never like all the flat TV's are electric energy savers, it solely depends upon the sophisticated technology being used to manufacture that product. Some newly designed LCD TV's are energy saving..

No. They use more energy than the old models. Tell your moms she needs to look in the mirror at the person who is causing the electric bill to go up. How much in dollar amounts is 3000 pesos anyway? http://reviews.cnet.com/green-tech/tv-power-efficiency/

I honestly dont think it saves more money or uses less than your conventional tube telly. If you are having dizzy spells watching TV then you need to go see a doctor. Don't they warn people nowadays that if you have dizziness while watching TV that you should stop and go see a doc? That could be the onset of a seizure ya know. But no, Screen TVs arent electric savers. Tube Tellies FTW
