Do mermaids exists in Reality?

Actually believe it or not, the legend of the mermaid came from manatees! Back in the days of Columbus, when he and his men were out "sailing the ocean blue," they saw manatees and instead thought they were looking at beautiful mermaids lounging on the oceanside rocks. Now I don't know about you, but that leaves me with two questions: 1) how long were those guys out at sea and 2) how much salt water did they drink to look at a manatee and think they were seeing a mermaid! Manatees are cute and all, but a mermaid they are not!

I don't think mermaids really exist although there's always the desire that there are mythical creatures hiding where human eyes cannot find them. I learned in school that then explorers came to the new world they saw manatees. These creatures have expressive faces like people and large fins at their sides like arms and their lower body taper into a tail. It's possible that when the explorers saw them they thought they were people with fins under the water. They believed they were seeing mermaids. So that's what fueled the myth.

I am not sure if there is a real mermaid or not, But I have seen them in cartoons and pictures in books. They are kinda like a fairy tale myth to me ..also along the same lines as Santa Claus and the story of Santa visiting all the houses on Christmas eve.. I do believe in magic but some things have never seemed to tell the whole story and became a proven fact.

never seen one in real....but had seen a snap or a painting of one which looked not so pleasant as the ones we see in cartoons....think its just an imagination,a creative one tho ;-)
