I procrastinate, do you?

There are times when something else is more fun to do than the task you really have to do. Like today. I am supposedly writing a book or discussing my salary with our HR officer at my 9 to 5 job. But here I am, MyLotting because I want to hit my target of 10 posts today.
I had erroneously double-posted one thread, and too bad that one response was already made on one.
But that's not the point. The point is, I should skedaddle already. So yeah, I am procrastinating right here, right now. *snicker*
How about you, do you procrastinate? If so, with what? Do you plan to change?
-Me, YES, I procrastinate.
-With MyLot, Facebook, Cafe World and Plurk. Or SMS-ing.
-Do I plan to change? Yes. Sometime.
Argh.

I feel that a lot of students procrastinate a lot. Unless someone has extremely strong worth ethic coupled with a lot of discipline they are bound to procrastinate. The level of procrastination varies between person. Some people procrastinate to the last night, last hour, last minute, or even the last few seconds. Procrastination is dangerous and is a sign of laziness. I, myself do not like to procrastinate but I find myself constantly following that deadly path. I'm supposed to be filling our resumes right right now but here I am answering this post on Mylot. Sweetness.

@eddyspaghetti Yes. We better grow out of this "sickness" soon. This does no good for those in pursuit of success! Oh noez!

@Caliya Yes, I think that we all have to learn how to prioritize.. I think I have to do that with my days, too. To always think that the top priorities are always:
-God
-Family
-Work
-Ministry
All else should follow those top 4. However, I think we should also give priority to our selves; that way we could also make it a point to recharge. :)
So I think it should be:
-God
-Family
-Work
-Ministry
-Self
-Friends
:D Do you guys think this is a sane way to prioritize too? Lemme know what you think!

Hmm, let me think about that. Oops English humour! I think that we all do, particularly with tasks that provide a substantial challenge. To determine whether you are really procrastinating, or just postponing something to a more acceptable juncture, it's worth considering whether you have all the resources you require- physical or mental. If you have these, then yes you are.
Sure, I put off dealing with some financial issues because I don't want to square up to the fight that I am expecting.
I do agree with snowdoll that if you ponder something too long you are more likely to make mistakes, and find your decisions riddled with doubt.

Oh Memnon, I think she meant that if she works under pressure, it seems like she cannot think as clearly. Then when she'll try to push herself, the results aren't as great as she would have wanted it to be, had she had more time to think about it and a more relaxed circumstances to work with.
Am I correct in attempting to understand what you meant, Snowdoll?
On the other hand, you have a great point, Memnon. When we don't have the resources, it shouldn't be considered procrastination.
Which brings me to the re-realization that we humans really need to make time for rest and rejuvenation; people are finding out now that an investment of time in rest makes for greater productivity, actually. Thanks for participating!

Yes, I'm a procrastinator. I can exist on a day to day basis and not give too much care for the morrow I have to confess: this can irritate. And yes, I habitually put off plenty of things, although I can suddenly stop and get long-postponed tasks done quickly too. Much of my 'crastination can be down to chronically low energy levels it has to be said; once these lift, I can be colossally active and energised for a time, but it's been a long long long long long time since that has happened. Oh well...back to the ole 'crastinatin'....

Energy levels do play a great part in a person's productivity. However, there are other factors at play too.
While I used to think that the energy highs and lows on my end are just normal, I'm realizing more and more that what I have may be a function of being Bipolar.
I was diagnosed Bipolar before, then I decided to claim my healing (I'm a Christian.) and consequently went off of meds. But though I no longer have psychoses and weird highs, I have one thing to deal with: great spurts of productivity followed by an "energy" crash. I realize now that my body seems to burn through my neurotransmitters and endorphins faster than the regular guy.
Could you possibly be Bipolar, too? I hope you don't mind my pointing out, but your pattern sure sounds like mine. :)
I deal with my patterns by using (and abusing) caffeine. Sad, but it's what I need to do in order to cope. :)
Thanks for answering!

Yes I do really badly. I have uni work to do today but I just can't be bothered! Maybe I need more coffee but I've already had two! I do need to take the dog for a walk and I don't really want to but it sounds like a better option than study! Yeah I spend a long time on Facebook playing games too but I will also procrastinate by doing anything other than the task at hand! I will clean, do some washing, bath the dog...I hate it!

Haha! Same thing I do, too. Instead of working, I choose to play a game or do Facebook. Heheh! Well, deadlines will come, and we're always going to be the ones who'll be screwed if we don't get to them. So here's to getting to those deadlines instead! :D

Ahh, yes, health issues. They really do get in the way. Hope you're feeling better, and I do feel like you're the type who counts her blessings. :) Hope that there's something to make you smile today and always! :D

Ahh, forgetting. Most of us end up forgetting those tasks we've "buried." Happened to me a few times, and my boss actually took up MY slack. :( Boo, self!
It helps to keep a planner for me to use. I actually have a few notebooks, a few cloud and desktop-based todo lists in order for me to keep track of tasks. It's worked, but nothing really beats just good ole gettin' to it. :D

I would have responded to this earlier, but, well... yeah, I guess I'm a procrastinator.
Seriously, it depends on what the task is. If it's something I enjoy doing, I can get right to it, but some things, like making certain phone calls or going to the post office, for instance, I can put off for days and days.
One of these days when I get around to it, I'll change, too.

Some days are just like that, lol. I have been known to put off something I should be getting done because I was in my scrappin room working on scrapbook layouts. Or I should be doing something and instead I'm outside because it's such a beautiful day. Overall, I don't procrastinate to the point that I'm late for something, or that the task doesn't get done that day. Do I plan on changing, naw, I've been like this for years, why change now? lol

"I've been like this for years, why change now?"
So funny. :D
But yeah, some things in life are worth setting aside a few tasks for. :) Like a beautiful day, for instance. :)

I, too procrastinate but this is because I cannot seem to find the proper work environment to say, okay, this is where I'd gather my thoughts and work till 5pm. I am always on my phone but only to mark tweets as liked to be read later or in Facebook to find posts to be read later or I check my emails.
Is plurking still a thing today?
I hope to change this disposition when we move to our new home.

Wow Stanley, good for you, then! I guess you're one of the more proactive ones. I'm actually working on being more proactive lately. Heheh!

I try not to do it as much as possible but it's no use. I guess I can never get it out of my system. I get to do other things before my immediate tasks and I get overwhelmed when unfinished businesses get all piled-up. Sigh! There are things that are really hard to unlearn.

Yes, I fully agree with you. Trying to do as much as possible tends to overwhelm us. I'm trying to do things one thing at a time. That's where my todo lists come in. LOL. The todo lists sure do help. :) They help you list down the things you need to do, and as you get each item done, you get to see progress because you get to tick them down. :) Try it, it rocks! :D

Procrastination isn't really a problem for me... thankfully. I find that I bounce my attention around a lot, but getting things done isn't really a problem for me. But that being said, I always have about 5 things going, and I trade things for other things. Like, if I have something that's work related that needs to be done, I'll do an alotted amount of time on that, and then treat myself with an allotted amount of time on something that's more interesting to me. It's a work ethic that works for me and allows me to get everything done without having to procrastinate in order to do what I want to do. :)

Hi there Kate!
Wow, a great suggestion: task tradeoffs and swapping. :) That's a great rewards system right there. :) Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
