Do you chat with friends while you are still at work?

I see this everyday, and maybe it is considered non - professional. Many of my co - workers using their working hours chat on the cell phone; either with their families, or with their friends. I simply have my cell phone in the locker, and I would tell my friends not call during my work hour. Even they call, leave a message, and I would get back to them during my lunch hour.
I mean, I am not nosy on people's business, but sometimes, I need some information from my co - workers, while they are chatting over the phone, I have to come back after they finish chatting, that is non - professional.

Most companies do not allow people to chat on the phone while they are at work. It is against the rules and usually cellphones are asked to be turned off or on vibrate and only used during the lunch hour. I am sure the same procedure is there for your company. If it effecting your work and their work then something should be done about it so that they will concentrate and not be an hindrance to the company.

If they understand it, it will be the perfect procedure applied to everyone. But people still want to chat on the phone whenever they got chance. It is not stoppable. For me, I just ignore what they were doing. I do my work, and finish them on time.

As long as you are doing what you are supposed to be doing I don't guess it really matters as long as they don't become a hindrance to you and all.

All day long...because I work from home
But, in the offline world....it really is rude having to wait for service because someone has a phone glued to their ear.

yes..sometimes i chat with my friends while at work if it is really important, but most of the time i don't chat them because it disturb me and i can't do my responsibility as the employee of the company.,why i have this kind of thinking?because the company is paying me exactly what i owe to have,or paying me exactly what is my rate or salary so i need to do my job and responsibilities....

I just recently downloaded skype on my Nokia 5800 and I have tried chatting with my friends via wifi during working hours. Forgive me, but I am just curious enough that my mobile phone can actually have skype and can do things that my desktop computer can. It's so amazing.

AS far as I am concerned, I think I do not want to chat with my friends while I am still at work . I think this action may influence my job a lot. What if the action was seen by my boss, I think I will have a bad luck. Maybe the bad impression will be in my boss's mind.I do not want this happens to me.

Hello, there,my colleges not only chat on the phone, they chat on the internet too,and play a lot of games, sometimes, they sleep directly,to me,they are so lazy,I am not nosy on people's business too,but when I try to get some information, most of the time,I have to wait, they are so non-professional,when I asked them, whey do you play games, talk, all that stuff, etc, they laugh at me,saying that I am silly, had working does't bring your any more money, why are you so diligent?
What can I say?

I talk less during my work so it's pretty unusual for me to go chatting with some friends while I'm at doing my work....I guess the main reason is because I want to finish my task as fast as I can

Yes! But that is because my work allow to do it, and I have to do it.
Chat with friends is important where I work. Because we need to give ideas to our work, or other times said as "Brainstorm".
So, we talk in the work and discuss ideas for our projects to see if something becomes real and be not only ideas.
But if it was not allowed, I think that would be kind of hard to work haha.
Or if was a different job, I think that I could live without chat with friends on work, is just wait 'till the break.

I find it really rude. I work reception, and if I have to go find out information from someone, and they're ignoring me because they're on a personal call, then I have to make someone else wait for that information. I find it really frusterating, and downright rude. If it's a personal call, the person should be able to wait a moment so that my co-worker can tell me what I need to know to continue on with my work day.
But I agree, it's often common for work places to ban cell phones, and to enforce no personal calls during working hours, except for emergencies.

I don't work outside the home, so that wouldn't be a problem for me. I only use it a couple times a day, and not for very long. Since I do things online, I can get calls at anytime of the day. O suppose that some work places won't allow others to talk on the phone while at work. They are there to work not chat. I also chat inside buildings where I might be doing shopping. If I did work outside the home, I doubt I would chat while working anyway. Take care and have a good day.

I work for the government and there's no restriction about using the cellphone. I myself is not really a chatter. I do say hello to some people and ask how they are doing, but that's it. My co-workers do that too. But as long as they finish their task on time and their boss don't complain, I guess it's not a problem.
