It tastes like chicken...

So often, people will say that a less commonly eaten meat tastes like chicken. From your experience, what, if anything, apart from chicken, does actually taste like chicken? As far as I know, I've never eaten anything else that tastes like chicken (unless the chicken I've eaten WASN'T really chicken???) I'm not that keen on the taste of chicken so, fear not, if you tell me some endangered species tastes like it, I promise not to go out and catch any

I hear that so often...but still I won't taste it.. I just say that is all good..you eat it..I can't get past the thoughts in my head enough to try anything unless I am tricked into it..which isn't often..My sister tried that with a deer roast..but one bite and I just knew it..she admitted it was. she had mixed a deer roast with a beef roast. But I knew..They tried to get me to eat ground hog,squirrel,snake,deer, and a few other animals..I love chicken...it is one of my favorite meats if done right.

I forgot about rabbit...Just my stepdad used to go hunting alot especially when I was younger and he always wanted mom to cook what he brought home..but I never would unless I said I was tricked and you can tell the difference really...I was more vegetarian growing up then anything because of that..unless I cooked the meal myself and knew what I was eating. Their is nothing wrong with eating the other meats I am sure..but it just isn't for me..

I have eaten gator before. Gator tail tastes like Chicken-fried steak, but that is different from chicken.

I wonder if Gators eat chicken, smack their lips and think "Mmmm, tastes like human"

basically, its just the "silly" category. I dont know if I'm allowed to mention other members my name but it was started by a male contributer who has replied to my porridge one and he is Panda Spanker in Chief! I think it began as absent-minded things we've done like going to work wearing stippers and other such "doh-h" moments but its become a home for random off-the-wall/silliness. If it was for "hep crowd whipper snappers" they certainly wouldn't let me in... I've never snapped a whipper in my life!

RoFL! Hey, i see the topic interest titles:panda Spanking, and it has a girl in a weird costume. I have responded to discussions under this topic, but WtF is a panda spanking anyway? Is this some new hip term with the new hep crowd whipper snappers???

Other than turkey? Frog legs supposedly do, but the ones I had were so smothered in garlic that I couldn't tell.

eating a frogs leg seems a bit too fiddly to me... a bit like eating fries instead of chunky English "chips" I presume its just the back legs??

hi wizzy, promise not to go out and catch any? I've tasted frog.. the clean one of course. I didn't know that it was a frog, my husband asked me to taste it and I asked why is the leg part so little but he still insisted me to taste it. When I tasted it, it taste like chicken. Afterwards when I said that it taste good and like a normal chicken meat he said it was a frog and I almost got. Anyways hope you wont go out and catch any

I dont think I'm quick enough to catch a frog We always used to have frog spawn in a tank in our classroom so we could watch the tadpoles hatch and grow into frogs in Spring. I dont really eat meat at all and i certainly wouldnt eat something as cute as a little frog - so, they're safe

I suppose thats ok for them to have told you it was chicken if you liked it. You may never have tried them if you'd known what they really were.

I would second the motion. I have eaten a deep fried frog meat before without knowing it was a frog. I was told that it was a chicken that was minced. Then they reveal it was a frog after I have eaten it. Anyways I wasn't disgusted at all since it really does taste like chicken.

When I was in China in 1998 I bought some food from a vendor in an alleyway that had some strange looking pieces meat in it. I chose to eat the rice and vegetables out of the container and threw away the meat as I had no idea what it was. It looked all gristly and fatty anyway, not very appealing! If I had eaten it though, I am sure it would have tasted like chicken!
@Wizzywig (7847)

If it was gristly and fatty and rats make the best steak... then you probably didnt have rat there, Bill! On the menu at work, they regularly have "Vienna steak" - sometimes its a burger, others its a rissole, just depends how much they flatten it. Perhaps one chef has a firmer slap than the other???

Be careful, I have a very old news of the weird article I got when I was a teen that states the China Daily newspaper as quoting that "Rats make Best steak in the world!"

It was probably not rat as they would not have much fat on them I imagine! Even though I was not a vegetarian at the time, I sure ate like one that week in China. I ate lots of bananas and noodles!

The first thing that comes to my mind is frog meat. First time I tried it I thought that it tasted like chicken, and every single person that I know who has eaten frog thinks the same. I find it funny how two animals that different can have a taste that similar
@Wizzywig (7847)

since I dont really like chicken either, I think it would be a bit of a waste.

Hmm once I wsa talking with my uncle and he was narrating that during the war 1945's he used to capture rats, boil them and cook them. He used to say that their meat tastes like chicken! yuck... Maybe I would have preferred to die of hunger. I love chicken and I don't mind eating chicken several times a week.

I suppose, if people are hungry enough they will try such things? I'm really not fond of any meat so, would be scrabbling around making nettle soup I think.

What I would like to know is, if everything else tastes like chicken, what does chicken taste like? Food for thought. I've heard that about frog legs, but ewwwww I don't even want to try those. I have eaten fried rattlesnake, and it does tast similar to fried chicken. But the only actual thing I've eaten that tasted like chicken, well turned out it was chicken. lol

Good question... based on the answers I've had here, I'd have to say frogs' legs!!

Hi, Wizzywig. I would have to say that Chicken Vienna Sausages tastes just like a potted chicken. It is the chicken flavored kind. I have heard many people saying that certain seafood and wild animals taste like chicken. But, I would never try it.. I think that I heard that a frog tastes just like chicken.. But, I would never eat it regardless..

Only thing I've tasted that tastes like chicken is chicken. I tried frog legs at a Chinese place once but they didn't taste like chicken to me unless they were suppose to taste like Chinese chicken which to me tastes a lot different than what I'm used to at home. Sometimes I wonder if its really chicken they got there. hmmm
@Wizzywig (7847)

Yes... I suppose you can never be totally sure unless you actually watch it being cooked

Here in our country, mountain frog really tastes like chicken. It's a native delicacy, bred in the country side and sold at wet markets with a price just the same as the dressed chicken. It's good to have it crispy fried and as an ingredient to a mouth watering soups. I know that most Chinese here in our country love it too.

They say frogs taste like chicken-- I think turkey tastes like chicken too [chicken's more tasty though]..

Turkey is maybe a bit drier... and people get sick of eating turkey because they buy a big one at Christmas/Thanksgiving and end up having roast turkey, turkey sandwiches, turkey curry, turkey stew......

I always here people say that too especially if they are saying this thing about something exotic that they have tasted. I have experienced eating frogs before and I also said to myself that it tasted like chicken, comparable to it actually. It was good and if there's going to be another chance for me to eat frogs, I am still going to eat it.
@Wizzywig (7847)

I think that expression is just meant to be spoken if that recipe is delicious. I'm not sure really if I tasted anything other than chicken that tastes like chicken. But if you really would want to test you taste skills for some exotic dishes then you could visit chinese or oriental restaurants which offer exotic dishes like snakes, pythons and others. Oriental Asians are really good at cooking such and they really love to eat exotics.

You know, the fact is the only thing that tastes like chicken that I eat was in fact chicken. And I am not that fond of chicken to begin with, so trust me when I say, the taste was not a welcomed one. Still, I tend to find that there are very few things that I would taste that are associated with chicken that I can think of off of the top of my head. Then again, when I eat new foods no matter what they are, I associate their tastes by my opinions on how they taste. For instance, this tastes good, this is okay, and this tastes awful. I do find it funny how people say things taste like certain things at time. Maybe their brain is wired that way. Of course there are some people who say that things like garbage(or something else for that matter that I imagine would not taste that good, not that I have ever tried tasting anything like that). I wonder how they would know. Could be that they are just exaggerating but perhaps we could have a traumatizing childhood experience. You never know but still for me, the only that has tasted like chicken was in fact chicken.

Well, I really don't know. Never ate nothing that tastes like chicken, only chicken (of course). But, some friends from here told me that some lizard meat tastes like chicken (or almost) like a kind of snake that have for around the forests from here called "Sucuri", never tasted it, but people says, so I'm telling you. Not sure, just heard.
@Wizzywig (7847)

I'd heard that snake did but I didnt know about the lizard... and I'm not about to find out for myself...
