It's 1:30 am here right now and my next door neighbor turned their tv really really loud! Wonder why they're doing it? It's the wee hour of the morning and people are sleeping or want to have some quiet time alone working on some things, it's realy annoying, it seems like they keep switching the channels and its so so loud! I'm now restraining myself not to call on to the local police station. What about you what would you do in this kind of situation?

I would go over there and tell them they are disrupting your sleep. Ask them to keep it own. If they dont after that I would call the cops. You need to get your zzzzzz in. Some people have no respect.

gee we're not really friends since they are unfriendly. I would have easily went over by now if they were friendly neighbors. You're right some people are disrespectful and also thoughtless! Hmmmm.... I can see from my bedroom window some of the neighbors are now gathering outside, guess they are going to confront them. hope this one does not turn ugly like last time.

It would be better if you called the cops, it'd be better for all the neighbors as everyone can remain anonymous, I'm glad it's not just bothering you but everyone atleast it means it's loud enough for many people to hear it, aka it's a disruption and needs to be stopped.

i guess first i would talk to my neighbour and tell him that i had to work tomorrow or whatever and could he keep the noise down, if it still continued, i could contact him a couple more times and if he still was noisy, i would contact the police. we have a noise bylaw in our city and after 11 if they are very loud, the police will come.

Seems like their neighbor's are coming to the rescue on this one, but they hope it doesn't turn ugly. I hope not too, but yeah calling the law on them would probably be the best thing to do, in this case it'd keep their anonymity as well.

I cannot add much more to what has already been said but you would be within your rights to call the police and let them know what is happening. That way the police can have the manpower available to handle the situation should it turn ugly. Being a retired peace officer, I have seen this type of behavior before and it was just to calle the police out so they could kill some of us.
Since the police already know how this family acts then call them right away so they can deal with them.

I would go ahead and call the cops. They should know better then to turn the television up loud enough for neighbors to hear it, especially that late at night! They need to be warned and let known that other people can hear it too.

That just shows the level of respect the neighbors have for anyone, they can't even respect the police who are trying to get them to abide by the laws. Maybe they will be kicked from your neighborhood if such behavior persists.

Geez it did get very nasty that night. They still did not want to acknowledge the neighbors gathering around their house and knocking on their door. Very very rude instead they attached external speakers to the tv set and really turned the volume really really loud. Everyone got mad and called the cops. The cops came and tried to talk to them but they would not open up and continued playing the loud noise. The cops had no other choice but to make a forced entry! The cops brought the family to the police station and the neighbors filed complain against them, we were like 10 neighbors who signed the complain.

If it is the first time that this kind of thing has ever happened, I think I would try to let it go. Then, the next time that I saw them in person, I would talk to them and let them know that it is bothering you. However, if this is something that happens on a regular basis, I think that I would be the person that would call the police so that they would get more quiet. I know that here where I live there are a lot of different noise ordinances that are enforced to keep neighbors noises within limits.

i would go over and ask that he please respect the neighbours and turn down the tv. If there's a landlord or a superintendent of the building, you could contact them and they would be able to go and tell the people to turn down their tv. If you're uncomfortable going to talk to them, or if they don't listen to you, then call the police. most places have a bylaw restricting loud noises from 11pm-7am (or some times there abouts). And if there isn't one where you're living, the people are still disturbing the peace, and you have every right to contact the police over it. You're probably not the only one who is annoyed at this behaviour.

Yup I was not the only one who was annoyed. Other neighbors came out because it was really really loud. I think its a no brainer that you should keep the noise down when everyone is asleep and besides its an unholy hour!

Hi Candyfairy, that is not good on their part, that is the peak time to have fallen asleep and they are being rude to run the Tv in such a high volume at such a time. It would be better if you go to their house next morning and complain about it politely, however try to do that firmly but politely.
