Destroy more trees!

A few weeks ago, a project was launched in the company I work for, to save resources. One of the initiatives was to go double sided printing on our documents. If you think of it, it made sense in a way that we not only saved money on the amount of paper that we use, but also maybe save a few trees.
In the weeks that followed, I’ve never seen so many people getting disoriented with this change! Including me! Not because we only now carried half the amount of paper we brought to meetings, but because of the number of times we flipped pages that we do during meetings. Now meetings took longer than they should.
I guess this week, somebody from higher management got really tired of it, that he or she requested all printers be brought back to single page printing.
Although this maybe a setback in our quest to save a few trees, the time we wasted flipping pages was not worth whatever savings we got. So, in the meantime, until we come up with a better alternative, we’ll go back to destroying more trees.
What did you think about my company’s actions? Are we justified in using single page-printing? Have you ever had resource-savings initiatives like this? Has one ever backfired? Like ours?

Timely discussion my friend. Avon recently started prnting out invoices in the same manner, for the same nobel green reasons. I was excited when they announced the changes, I work at being good to the planet and my own environment, you might even say at times, I pride myself on it. Mother nature forgive me...I hate these new invoices!!!!! What a pain this is and it took me 30 or 40 extra minutes to do my paperwork, and forget about having two invoices in the same space..I am constantly flipping to see which campaign is which. I know I should be willing to put up with a little inconvenience to do my part, and I should slow down a little, I am aware of all the blah blah blah arguments to keep dong this..I don't care!!
As far as I am concerned, the energy I am spendig on wasted time, just isn't worth it. So yes, the same initiative, and the same backfire..for me anyway, I just hope for alot of other Avon reps too, Corporate is pretty good at respondng to mass feed back.
Just heard if we finish 6th you are our first match up..That would be like a final round match up the way you guys are playing..what an exciting start that could be. Not 100% sure we are ready to go that hard yet. Sticks crossed.

Have I told you that I worked for Avon before? And my mom is also an Avon rep? I'm not sure if she's been bogged down by the double sided invoices yet, if she is, I haven't heard it yet. When I was still working there, we used to get design documents which were distributed to all Avon manufacturing plants all over the world. Stacks and stacks of paper for each product, variant, component, etc. I know Avon was working on reducing paperwork, and having it all online. Avon is responsible that way.
These last few games is like musical chairs. Wanting to find out who the dance partners are going to be when the music stopped. I wish that the wings get 6th. I don't want the canucks meeting your boys in the first round. The goal this year is to get past the 2nd round. And it would surely put a damper on that goal if we met up first round. Yep, sticks crossed.

We have a lot of conference calls where people look at the materials online. That saves a lot of trees...
